Need some help, quickly

Greetings fellow Ballsyians

I have just been made aware of a EBMM sale going on close to where I am working. The have a SR4 30th, I did try it about a month ago. I own and love my Sterling 4H and look to be really interested in the Sterling BFR's that are listed at the NAMM show coming this weekend. My problem, the 30th seems to be some kind of iconic idol of worship which i cannot seem to get out of my head. Do I go and get it, and if so what is the difference sound wise between a stock SR4 and this magnificient offering? Need guidance among other things; including some sort of explanation for my gal.

I don't recommend idol worship but I can recommend the 30th. The differences sound wise to me are not so subtle. The 30th has a richer, sweeter, almost gelatinous tone and much more resonance than a standard stingray. Simple explanation, but I really think there is nothing to add or take away from it. It does sound much sweeter to me even in a live performance I might add though.

Get it. BFR's are cool, but the 30th is a one time deal; there's only one 30th anniversary, just like only one 40th and so on.

Great explanation, slucas. One thing I've found is how much more my bandmates comment when I play the 30th (as opposed to the buttercream). The full and rich sound is just different than my other ray. Could be the mahogany body. Could be the string through design. Could be the combo of the two. What ever it is, this is a bass you'll hold on to for the rest of your life.

Go and A/B them yourself at the store, I find my 30th brighter, more punchier and fuller than my SR4. My 30th neck has a little less meat as well, thickness wise. Check it out, then buy the 30th
