Out of curiosity, what are the pedals for?
Pedal on the right is the accellarator, pedal on the left is the brake, pedal in the middle is for when you don`t know where ya wanna go (usually referred to as a "FEM" Pedal. :D
No, seriously the pedals change the pitch of the string up or down when pushed. Same for the knee lever.
Isaw this very pedal on e-bay about 2-3 weeks ago. make me wonder if it sold and is being re-sold? Hmmmmmm. Interesting!

just like a bike, you pedal to get the groove going, then use them to break when the song is ending.

I'm kidding, sorry. I don't know the exact function of each one, but they are used to bend certain strings, or series of strings....like the "b-bender" on telecasters. I think the pedals bend certain single strings one at a time...and there's another one you bend with the knee that bends multiple strings.

I'm 71.6% certain this is accurate.

I'm sure that I remember reading something about Sterlings father being involved with the pedal steel - but there again my memory is ... uh ... I forget???

That is 100% accurate. I've never played a steel but I've been around people who do - each pedal bends a specific string to a different pitch, and the knee pedals often bend multiple strings.

Actually you should say that a "b-bender" was designed to allow a player to do those precise pedal steel bends on a "spanish" or "regular" guitar.
