It sure does seem like a good idea. I'd like to see what it'd look like. I've never been a huge fan of pick-guards anyway.

Well I have two luthier friends - one is sooooo busy and the other one has just finished a residential course and passed with flying colours after making a wicked acoustic guitar.

He was talking about the same thing re the AL without Pickguard - it screams out for it (I think!)

He said he had some nice "pine" for the body and I thought he was pulling my leg - but he was deadly serious!!

Edit - oh yeah - 24 frets too!

I'd love to see a prototype of something like this, koa or not.

I know there was that one futuristic AL one off, but I was wondering for more than a regular AL. :)

The body shape just screams for some nice wood! (i don't want to hear about your girlfriends guys!)
Put some nickel humbucker covers on there and call it a day!

Or for a pickup combination how about say SSMiniH or SMiniH?

And a tone block?

See for me painted is fine, but that's me.

I always thought that would be a cool setup but you just have to wonder if the output would match up well.

It would be an interesting project though.....now if only someone could convince my wife

Pug, I'm kind of hoping that they might try somethings like whats in this thread or have already tried them out and will let everyone know.

I'm sure here are ways to match the outputs up, I'd imagine that pickup tweaks or electronics board tweaks would be necessary. I'm really new to this end of the stuff.

Glenn,

I know exactly what your talking about, although since Mr. Lee has been playing this guitar for years he may be living by the "If it ain't broke, don't fix it" mantra.

The AL is a superb instrument, plain and simple.

It's up to maniacs like us to come up with mods and tweaks:D

I always though that the S-S-MM90 would be a cool set up because you still would have that single coil vibe going on in the bridge position, albeit a much bigger sound.

The S-S-Minibucker is another interesting idea. That could work really nicely and would definitely look incredible.

Well, we can dream, can't we?
