We have combined the magical properties of excellent photography with overblown hyperbole and a plethora of exclamation points while still playing on the baby boomers' all-encompassing love of all things "vintage" in order to grossly overinflate the market price of this rather pedestrian example of what is admittedly a very good bass.

Something like that.

Never underestimate the value of good photos in an eBay ad.

I think i've cracked it. The buyer is from Switzerland. Because of the strong euro and falling dollar, that bass was 'a good deal' by european standards. They could have found a better deal though.

Hardly. The problem is: Almost nobody ships to Europe! Check the eBay auctions: about 99% are set to ship to US only.

FYI, if you find such a SR4 in a music store, they'll probably tag it with 2'700. First, because it's a MusicMan, second because it's vintage.

I tell you: Don't say you won't ship to Europe -- if you want to sell your instruments fast and at good prices, it's the most stupid thing you can do at the moment.

Right now shipping to europe is pretty pointless from what i can see, particularly the UK. I've seen people selling rays for £600 on forums because of the recession, when you buy a ray from america, once you've added shipping, VAT and customs it's about the same price, or more. $1800 is about £900 right? You'd be mad to buy a ray for £900 over here at the moment. I'm not saying they're not worth it, far from it, but most of them won't go above £750 at the moment because of the recession. I think the buyer was just stupid if anything.

"plethora," "encompassing," "grossly" "pedestrian"(I rather like "rather," too!) and the context of "admittedly."

I like your vocabulary a whole lot, sir.

On the thread, now, I think it's fine if somebody's willing to pay somebody else that much money for "what is admittedly a very good bass."--I really like that.

Just as long as he or she knows full well what is being purchased--and that's not hard to figure out, given the vast resources at one's fingertips when operating a computer with an internet connection. I wish people would be honest in the first place though.

This is of course only my opinion, and should probably be ignored.

The only thing that vexes me is the inclusion of "Sunburst" in the description. It almost seems as if the seller has copied and pasted this description from somewhere else, or is blind and has been lied to about the finish of his/her bass for a few years.
