There is lots of love for sparkles here on the forum.

Unfortunately, they weren't quite so popular with the general bass-buying public when they were in production....and so they went the way of the dinosaurs.

Only dinosaurs don't show up on eBay from time to time.

That's Right, I bought them all, hehehehe

And get no interest at all... since I've put up my mint black sparkle in the for sale thread, there was not a single response... and on eBay, the hit counter stays at very low numbers... nobody buys them... (And it's not about the money, people throw much more money out the window to get and old beat up, not all original, ugly Jazz or a pre-EB MusicMan)

Solely my opinion here. Sparkles look nice on guitars, the color mix and body shape looks proportional. Sparkles on bass, with a bigger body, will look too much, not a lot of people can accept that, especially the solid sparkles ones, white. black, silver..etc. A burst type sparkles would have better visual effect on a big-bodied bass, eg. redburst, redrise, blue dawn..etc. What you guys think?

Same here, Oli...I'm waiting on a redwood BFR, and looking for a sparkle Stingray stateside. I've been looking for awhile now. I won't buy one from CL or ebay, so I'm limited to the LA/SD area.

If only...if only there was...someone....in LA...with a warehouse? or storage unit? full of sparkle Stingrays, perhaps multiple versions of the same color, and if only...that Santa Claus...that Mother Theresa of the Sparkle Finish...found it in his or her voluminous heart to share some of that sparkly wealth...well, that would be Christmas in July, wouldn't it?

If there IS a Santa Claus, the best way to reach me is at 858 362 4379.

Ahh yes! I am waiting for that Santa Claus too. That gold sparkle a while back was awful tempting, but gold is just not my color. Now the others....:D

As I've said before (many times), I really like the sparkle finishes and I know quite a few of the Knucks love 'em, too.

But let's face it - we are not representative of reality. To paraphrase BP, if he listened to us in order to shape his business model, he'd be asking if you wanted fries with that burger.

And the market for used sparkles is about the same as the market for any finish. Maybe that will change as we move down the road (and MusicMan Nut continues to corner the market) but a bit of unsolicited advice for those who are attempting to sell a sparkle finish: don't price yourself out of the market.

I sold this one for about the normal price or a used Sterling. Was it worth more because it was a sparkle finish? The market said 'no'.

Just my opinion, of course.

Jack I am a lover of the sparkle finishes as you know and I have to agree 100% with your statements.

The price will only go up above the norm if there is a want for it. Pricing for guitars and basses seem to run about the same. The only model of MM that seems to command more is the original JP sparkles.

I have a Sparkle in the for sale thread.

Billy, that is one beautiful sparkle but I just heard from Pete and my redwood BFR is nearly ready. I'm probably headed to the sidelines for awhile before relaunching SparkleQuest '08 in the fall.
