$4000 of dept if you are currently earning $1000 a week isn't that bad at all. It equals 4 weeks of work. I've been in a situation where my debts equaled 6 months of work!

Keep the bass. Keep the girl. And if you think she needs a car, get her one. Be a bit more relaxed about your debts (though I think it is very good and commendable that you take your situation seriously!!!). Maybe this is the time to live in a trailer with your friend. This can be a great adventure and opportunity you won't have anymore in the future, when you get older. Take you bass with you and write songs about it. And don't give too much about what the community at your church tells you. God is everywhere, in everything, and in everybody. God is music. God is your bass. God is your girlfriend. Be good to them, and you will please The Creator.

That's my take.

I'd say that the bass is the least of your worries.

Take a step back from everything and make sure that your life is as you want it to be before going down the path you've outlined here, since there seems to be incredible potential for a great deal of pain and regret in your future. You need to be happy before the girl, God, or anyone else. And it would appear to the outside observer that some of the choices you're about to make are at direct odds with your personal happiness, your spiritual strength, and your financial stability.

Just my 2 cents.

Good vibes to you, man.

Maybe it's time to move on to a new church? Not a new denomination, just a new building with different/more understanding people.

Regardless, I know sometimes all a person needs is to know that there are others out there that will listen and give encouragement when times are tough. Judging from the replies so far, it looks like you're in the right place for that. :D

You've got a good job, you're doing your best to help out the people you care about, things will get better. Maybe all that's needed is a little patience and faith.

And by the way, keep that bass! Unless it has zero sentimental value to you.

And, if I were $4000 in debt I wouldn't be buying Monster cables :)

I recently learned something about lifetime warrenties, and guitar center replaces them so easy it will definatly be worth it as I go through cables..

would that necessitate multiple cars then?

Hmm? I guess your asking why am I buying a car when I need money? Agian its for my girlfriend. Actually she will be paying most of the notes on it anyways, and she NEEDS it, for work, and to get away from my crazy parents.

My old standby, Jack-o.

I am not even going to comment on your situation. It is truly absurd, and I do not know what it has to do with MusicMan basses.

It has to do with I own one and I don't play it too much anymore, don't have the time. Needed some advice as of what to do.

Yea, it just seems so hard cause everymonth there is something that pops up and I need to spend alot of money on this or that. And there never seems to be more than 500$ worth of last months bills. I know I need to manage my money better, I don't even waste it on anything since Im never home to spend it. I used to be much better at managing money and then I lost my job...

Its the most stunning bass I have ever seen, though I would still trade it for a sterling dargie delight.. But thats about it, I really wanted a sterling over a stingray before I quit and now Im seeing if I am going to keep playing a 5 will suit me best.

Most of my thoughts seem to have been outlined already. I guess I think like you guys in a few ways, huh? That's pretty cool.

I think that if your church doesn't love you no matter what you choose, then they are a bit intolerant. --been said. There's really not enough love in the world.

If you want to buy your girl a car, go for it.--been said.

And I think you should keep your bass, because it's as much a part of who you're changing from to who you're changing into. Plus, it's fun.

It's a bit poetic, but my father once told me: "Thoughts form ideas, ideas form actions, actions form habits, and habits form character." It all starts with a thought.

I've always been of the opinion - "if you have to ask advice of others about something like this , you have already made your mind up and just want to hear your right about it."

Make your own choices in life, you'll never go wrong. If something does not work out for the best, it's not wrong, just a learning experience that will do more for you than advice from someone elses life.

As for for the "church" thing, I'll with hold my opinions on organized religion.

Aye. Everyone has to find their own way. Lets keep it to basses. Reading the news headlines is a bit depressing.

I can honestly relate to some of these issues you're facing.
And your dead right, you just need to play more
Its very hard to find the energy and motivation to practice, when your not at the top of your game anymore, and your tired from working hard.
And when you do get to play, you suck!
But you just have to do it. A little more every day.
Your ability to play to your satisfaction, will move either forwards or backwards every day...the choice is yours.
I found that putting my bass away in its case was not good....out of sight, out of mind...
Leave it out...on a stand...somewhere in your face...give yourself a project /task/exercises, whatever...theres miles of stuff online.
try and find a quiet spot to play...you dont really need an amp to practice quietly.
And although things may seem tough, it seems like your making the appropriate tough decisions to tackle the problems......thats good stuff.
And your girlfriend is very lucky to have found someone as understanding and selfless as you have been to her family/work situation.
Dont sell the bass, play it a bit more.................
