... I have tried a butt load of nickel and stainless rounds on my Bongo, and I'm tired of swapping strings! Some were good, some not as good. I stumbled across an old set of ACME flats, that were on my RB5 a couple of years ago; threw them on today and.....well all I can say is, WOW! I'm grinning from ear to ear, I'm practicing for my Sunday gig, and I can't put the thing down. I can hardly wait to hear it thru the foh. Flats are a good thing!:D Hopefully I'm finished with buying strings......well at least until I get another Musicman.

strings over a year old....time to get a new set?

You are strange and do not understand our customs. We, The People of the Flatwounds, revere the year old strings in much the same way as The Roundheads love their zing and treble.

Yet we will not turn you away if you wish to study and learn - and become one with the Flats.

It is our way.

i had flats on my passive sub for about 6 months and it was so warm :p
not so keen with them on my jazz. string tension required + higher action = back to rounds

I put some flats on my frankenbass fretless conversion. Wasn't to thrilled at first. The strings felt a little tacky. Then I loaned it out to a friend's kid to try for awhile. Well it stayed there for couple of years before coming home. Now I love the feel of them. Flats do get better with age. Someday I will have to try them on my ball bass.

Not all flats have the same tension. The "ACME" flats referred to above are the lowest tension on the market, and I can tell you first hand that they go nicely with a J.

The Bongo 6 H is really feeling good with the Acme flats. Not as great yet as the 5 year old flats on the SR 5 though. Yet.

We have a winner!

I played 2 svcs this morning, in a large auditorium, and a few of the guys noticed a difference in my sound. The foh tech was floored by how rich and full my Bongo sounded; they're staying on.

I have never in my life played a flatwound string on a electric bass.

I just played muscial chairs with the strings on my Bongo and Sr4. The old ACME Flats that were on my Sr4 I put on the Bongo and moved the rounds back onto my Sr4.

The Bongo sounds 100 times better with the flats. I have a set of EB Group 2 flats to put on buit these old ones sound great still

The rounds definaltey sound better on the Sr4 to me.

And they both sound better through the new LM-II!! :D

It is a happy day here!!
