Axis BFR Reordered

Well, my local store, who forgot to place my order for my BFR Axis have finally figured it out and it is being ordered tomorrow morning. I am going for a translucent black finish on this one.

I am wondering a few things. Is there a big tonal difference between the standard Axis and the BFr, with regard to the "tone block"? And do these guitars get the premium wood? Should I expect a really heavily quilted top and a lot more birdseye on the neck, not to mention great weight and better tonal properties? They just use the regular Axis pickups, correct? If my order does go in tomorrow, how long should I expect to wait?

JT, I would think there would be a significant difference in tone because of the tone block. For instance, my BFR JP sounded way thicker than my regular JP that I had. Also, the BFR's are all premium woods. I'm thinking you probably will get a decent amount of birdseye. As far as the pickups and waiting time goes, I believe they have the regular Axis pickups in them, and judging from the wait time on my Koa JP, you're probably looking at 3-4 months. Hope that helps.

Thanks, that actually helps a lot. 3-4 months works great for the budget, as we are moving into a new house and funds are a little tight right this second.

My standard Luke and BFR Luke sound very different so I would expect the same with the Axis too. You won't be disappointed with the BFR!

The wait is like torture though....

Completely excited. Never thought I'd fall for the Balls so hard. I've totally changed my tune as far as Gib$on$ are concerned, and I am doubtful I will ever own another Le$ Paul or $G. I am sure this will be one of the most awesome guitars I will ever own, and at half the price of my last 59 Le$ Paul reissue.

As far as sleep, excited or not, my Pug pup and my kids make sure I get very little of it.

You better do what I did: make sure the kids are at grandmas, the dog is in the kennel, and send out flyers around the neighborhood!!!

Then call up the Earthquake Center at UC Berkeley - Richter scale - here it comes!!

Hell, I am close enough to Oakland that you may even feel it.

The Bogner/Axis combination is amazing, as was the Bogner with my Le$ Paul$, so I am thinking this will really be something special.

I just talked to my dealer (that sounds odd-I'd have been arrested for saying that in the 80's), and he is waiting for a call back from EB/MM with confirmation of the order, etc. I should know in a day or two about when it will be completed, or at least estimated to be.

The pics I've seen of the trans black are all so different. I've been trying to decide over the last 2 weeks whether to order an opaque black axis or upgrade to the bfr. The toughest part is no 2 guitars seem to look the same. And on top of that, the more I look at the more common axis colors the more I'm liking them.

I haven't bought a new guitar since I got a BC Rich custom made for me by bernie rico himself 25 years ago. I still remember showing him the drawing I made for the custom paint job.

Also, guitar center wants me to pay for the guitar in full to order it while another place I talked to wants about 20%. I asking for full payment 3 months in advance standard or should I talk to someone else at guitar center?

Well, I won't bash GC here, but I use other dealers. I know a couple of guys here on the page are dealers, so they may help. You can also try BizarreGuitar.com and drop an e-mail to Travis. They'll order you one and at only 10% down, balance when the guitar comes in (I gave them a higher deposit). I've bought a bunch of guitars from them, and they've never done me wrong. They probably have a ton of the Aixs guitars in stock, and are more than happy to do special orders.

BTW, those original BC Rich guitars were something else, weren't they? RIP Bernie.

I agree; I like giving the little guys a chance. For me, dealing with the small dealers results in better customer service, and a better relationship in the long-term. I could buy a million things from GC, and the next month they wouldn't remember me when I walked through the door. Not so with the smaller guys.

The wait is a killer - I remember the 4 month wait I had for my first Albert - but it was well worth it.

Thank God I have my current Axis to keep me company during the wait. It's cool though, as the wait gives me time to get the rest of the funds together for the purchase.

Oh, and the camera will be overused when that guitar does come. One of these days I'll get the video camera out too and post some vids of the Axis I have now through my Bogner; I am so in love with the tonal combination of these two pieces of gear.

I've finally made a decision. I will buy an axis that I can get right away. Seems like the favorite is the pacific blue burst/floyd/birdseye/matching headstock and I'll play it while I order a custom bfr. The plan is to sell the original one once I get my custom order but I have a feeling I'll be keeping both.

If anyone has a brand new pacific blue burst axis send me a pm. I'll be pulling the trigger on it asap.
