The Axis or the Steve Morse? That is the Question?

Hey everyone!

I'm kinda new to the forum. Been saving up to buy my first EBMM guitar! Been wanting one for years, and I'm almost ready to pull the trigger. Problem, I'm on the fence on which model to get!? I've asked about the Morse neck profile last week or so, and I got some good info there. I've played the Axis before, and it is an awesome guitar. I'm familiar with that guitar. So, I know how it feels and sounds. However, the Morse really is calling to me mainly because of the pickup options. There is no way I can try one out though. I've never even seen one. I live in Austin TX, and this is a Fender town all the way. Is it worth buying one from MusiciansFriend, and test driving it?? The Morse sounds like what I'm looking for. A no-nonsense guitar with many sound options. I play blues, metal, funk, and some surf if that helps out at all....

A little help in the right direction will be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Although I have only had my Morse since May, I have to say there are an incredible variety of tones available. Not to say that the Axis isn't a multi-talented beast as well, in fact I believe there are several members here who have done some mods to thier Axis guitars to broaden the tonal possibilities.

The Morse is great though, sometimes the switching configuration throws people for a loop but once you get a grasp of it, it's like anything else, easy and worthwhile.

I was looking at the Standard, but hell that new model looks awesome. I hear that the neck is thinner on the new models? True or Untrue?

Yeah, the neck on all new Morses comes with a profile that was taken from his #1.
There is a video on here that talks about how EBMM scanned the neck from his original and used the findings to replicate it on all new Morse guitars. the Standard as well as the Y2D.

Sorry, I don't know what the neck profile's like on Morse models. I think it may be similar to a Silhouette neck profile, but not sure. Didja look at the black one on ebay, it's only going for $750 so far. It's a 2002 and appears in fairly good shape.

Having never played the Morse, I can't really say not to get it, but I can say that should you get an Axis, you will not regret it. Amazingg guitar and so good that all my historic Gib$on$ are no longer with me, and will be replaced by EB/MM Guitars.

I have a y2d and it is sweeeeeeeeeeeeet the neck feels small at first but I grew used to it in like 3 notes..verry cumfy. That being said I will be getting an axis I orderd in a couple days. Both rock hard

that's two totally different guitars. I think, Morse is much more easy to play, it has better neck. But Axis sounds more powerful, it's a perfect rock guitar, very fat sound. Morse is "thinner"

The Morse is definitely not a thinner sounding guitar (like a Strat) but they are both great guitars.
