well i had to show off my new Silverburst BFR which i just picked up 2 weeks ago to John.he already played it at the 6/7/08 N.Y.C. clinic and i remember the look in his eyes while he was holding it.
pic's just don't do this guitar ANY justice...
he was telling me he just got his Koa and he's LOVING the ebony fretboard!I couldn't agree with him more because my SB has the ebony and the tone is AMAZING!:D

I know BP has stated before why he doesn't use ebony as a fretboard wood, but boy would I love that option on a Luke. That guitar looks beautiful, thanks for the pics Rich!

It is an option on the Luke, the KOA Luke BFR, i'll let you know;)

From what I understand, these are some but perhaps not all the key differences between rosewood and ebony:

I think ebony is harder to come by than rosewood, and perhaps may cost a bit more.

Ebony is supposed to be brighter than rosewood...more like maple in terms of tonality. I can't tell the difference though in tonality when it comes to fretboards.

Having said that I do not know if these are really factors or the reasons why ebony has not been used until the production of the Koa JP's and Lukes.

Yeah Fing, I saw that it's only on the koa. I think it would asthetically look even better on regular colors as it would match the black emgs better. It would feel nice under your fingers as well.

Another reason why it isn't used is that it's susceptible to drying out and cracks easily. My old guitar teacher still has his Jackson that's over 20 years old w/ an ebony fretboard and it looks brand new.

Rich, that tone is amazing, thats for sure. Write me down some settings with the BB and Mark IV and email me. Haha. I wanna try and get that RHY1 tone with my BFR. Thanks for everything yesterday, it was one of the best nights I've had in a long time.

It was great hanging out and jamming. I'll definitely have to come up to the city more.

ha,you got home ok i'm assuming?4:30am for me dude...i ended up helping john load his car with the amps and guitars at the end.did you see when he came up to me and pushed me.hahaha...it was a great time.
hey man,glad you were really digging my tone.it took lots of tweaking and you saw the tubes in my IV(how sweet is that)?
sure i'll write down a few settings but remember my friend,the settings are just part of it as you said yourself when you were here alot of it is coming from the fingers.

Yeah Rich, I got home alright. I didn't get home til about 7AM or so. What a great night. I'm glad that JP told me that he was happy with how the Koa sounded, because now I'm really excited to get mine. It was definitely cool sitting and talking to JP, he's awesome. So down to earth and friendly. Thanks again for the invite man. Hopefully we can do that again sometime. Twas the highlight of my year, and what a way to bring the summer to an end. :D
