Les Paul --> ??

Those of you who are former Les Paul players, which EBMM model has replaced your LP?

..for me its silo, but maybe it makes sense to diverse the silo and the 20th anniv.silo as they seem to deliver quite diverse sounds..?

For me the LUKE has thick sounding character (bridge particularly) that can be compared to LP. IMO

My first Axis (gawd, it seems SO long ago now) - the band moved to an 80's prevalent set list, and I needed something with a Floyd Rose. I had heard that the Axis had one that only dropped the pitch, and after working on Floyds for others, I knew of the problems with most which were routed to float, so that fact was a plus. I had played my Les Paul for years and years up until I got my first Axis, and now it sits in its case in a closet. One look at my signature list indicates which direction I decided to go after the first Axis.....

I'm not a "former" Les Paul player (because I still play it from time to time). However, I play my MM guitars (by farrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr) the most, which are my favorites!

I never replaced my LP, because it's a whole different guitar. I really don't think MM has a guitar that you can directly compare to the LP. I guess body style the Axis would be the closest.

I think the Strat is more of a comparable guitar with the MM line, especially with the Silo. But, then again, the MM guitars are the ONES to have!!

After I installed a Dimarzio Pro Track split-coil pup in the neck position of my Silo Spec I have no real need for my LP.

Never quite liked the LP format. Owned a few, but never quite bonded. But those 22 fret HH tones are just too good to ignore. Once I got my 20th, I never looked back!

But I'd say an ASS would probably be the closest...

I was a die-hard Le$ Paul guy, and honestly thought I had some of the finest historic series LPs that were out there. I always felt like something was missing though, but I was reluctant to try anything else other than the occasional PRS, which left me cold. I eventually tried Andersons, Suhrs, Jacksons (in the 80's), BC Rich (80's), ESP-good guitars, etc. Earlier this year (after paying nearly $5K for my latest 59 RI), I decided to give the EB/MM Axis a go. I loved it from day one and within 2 weeks I could never see anything else as my number one guitar, and now I can't even imagine playing a Gib$on. There is such a synergy between that guitar, my amp and me, so much so that I am getting another Axis (BFR) and have sold off my Gib$on$.

I have an Epiphone and I will be "replacing" it once I get my JP. I am still going to used it though.

Here's something I completely agree with. For some reason, only a select few of us seems to be able to be "spoken to" by the EBMM range. It's almost as if you don't choose the guitar, but the guitar chooses you. And once it does, you seem to develop an adversion towards all other makes. I don't know how to explain it. It's almost like a calling...

Everytime I pick up any other make in the past, there was always a hit and miss feeling about those guitars. Either I'll like it, or I'll hate it. And they took sometime to bond... But for some reason, EVERY EBMM I pickup is like an old friend. Even the unfamiliar Axis or AL to me was odd because I didn't really like those guitars but if I pick another brand up then try the Axis or AL, it's like coming home. I'll really enjoy playing those, then after a while, I'll realise that there's something still not quite right. Then I'll put those down, and the nearby Silos will spoil me. Hahahaha... But those other makes for me would still be far far away...

Like today. I tried something that I thought was completely awesome. A Tom Anderson. Really nice piece. It sang and sang so much, I almost fell in love. Then my hand started rejecting that neck. The more I played it, the more I wanted to STOP. It's a fabulous guitar with GREAT construction, wood and tone. But it just wasn't me. Then I come home, pick up my simpler Silo Spec, and I forgot about the Anderson...

It's like having a ****ty day at work, then coming home to a warm family... Except in this case, that ****ty day at work happenned to be something quite nice!

I'd guess any of the BFRs just because of that tone-block. But I'd also agree that the MM line seems to fit more into the strat/tele category, (even though we all know, they do a better job!). I'm thinking/hoping that a JP6BFR will be a sweet hybrid/middle ground guitar that can cover A LOT of bases.

The ASS is looking like a solid choice. For me with MM90s, it was the only choice.

I have a Les Paul Studio as well as my EBMM collection. The Les is a thicker kind of sound, but the Axis guitars are pretty close to the sound. I like the Les Paul, but the Axis guitars are far more versatile, and sit in the mix much better than the Les.

i sold my les paul recently because i couldnt bond with anymore since getting my BFRJP model.actually when i think about it now i never really was comfortable with the LP all the time since i had bought it.i really love the tone from the LP,s dont get me wrong but the complete EBMM range of instruments all are so well finshed and so comfortable to play.i plan to add an ASS,silo and maybe an AL to my collection in the coming years.

..but maybe i should add that i changed the dimarzios to an invader in the bridge and a full shred in the neck and especially the latter gives me tones out of the silo that are not that much away from the tones of my former les paul standard in black (beautiful piece it was, but i´ll NEVER go back)..

..addicted am afraid..
