Beginning to dislike you folks!

After being happy with a decision on a Luke, started reading your posts. Now I'm looking at the Petrucci as the 'most versatile'. Now I'm seriously thinking of both. The Luke has some great tones that fit my ear beautifully, but the EMG's have a 'sameness' to them that pulls into question whether it will be completely separate.

That piezo on the JP is extremely cool. Very hard unless ordered to get one on a Luke.

The only thing I wonder about here are the cleans on the JP. How do they sound? Probably not SC sound, but opinions? I'll search around here to get answers as well to not slack...

One thing is, I'm VERY impressed with EBMM guitars. Seems to me like one of the best kept secrets in guitarland.

The JP's are amazing. Especially the BFR. Beautiful cleans. Use the piezo and blend it with the middle position or the neck pickup with a chorus pedal and its pure heaven.

The Luke has epic tonal versatility... Any footage of lucious in action will confirm that for you... From metal to jazz, no dramas...

But the JP is sweet too...

Maybe take each for a test first... they have very different necks...

I think you should see what is comfortable for you and then track down that model with a piezo... or BFR haha

Gotta say the 'V' neck design is my fav. But I learned much of my electric stuff on an Ibanez, so I'm semi-used to those thin necks...

I sure wish there was a Luke w/Piezo around here. I found a place with some beautiful pieces, but of course its on the other side of the world (town) from me, and finding it hard to find time in my work/twins schedule to get up there.

If I love it, I'm thinking I'll just order one...save myself the trouble.

The LUKE and JP are my main guitars for gigging. Both are equipped with the piezo, and both are extremely versatile. I use the LUKE for single-coil sounds a la pink floyd, and for drop-d songs. I use the JP for pretty much everything else, although I could conceivably use the LUKE for everything.

Order up a LUKE with piezo, you won't be disappointed!

Most versatile: Luke with an EMG 89 in the bridge + Piezo. No contest, although the Petrucci doesn't dissapoint either

I haven't found anything yet that my Petrucci can't do. Recently, I decided I wanted another guitar and went out shopping. There's this one guitar manufacturer that hasn't made solidbody electrics up until now that I wanted to check out. It sounded great in the store so I brought it home with me. Got home and played around a bit and immediately I found myself putting it down and wanting to pick up my Petrucci instead. WHY DIDN'T I GET THE PIEZO dangit!!!

Anyway, while this "other" guitar sounds great on certain things, it can't hold a candle to the versatility of my Pet and that's WITHOUT the piezo option. Long story short, this "other" guitar is going back and a BFR Petrucci will soon be mine.

the JP cleans are beautifull especially in the middle postion or mixed with piezo like phil said.its an all rounder the JP in my opinion and can adapt to most styles i reckon.
