I have been offered an EVH axis, for the equivalent in danish kroner to 1500$ - a pretty good deal. It seems to be in good condition, etc. but I was actually more looking for at pacific blue burst axis SS or axis, but they are very hard to come by here in Denmark.

The question is - is the narrower fretboard a problem, or is this just a great deal which I should jump on right away? The reason I ask, is because I can't try it out before I decide - I will pick it up personally, but it is 3 hours drive away, so I would like to have some idea about it, beforehand.

Here's some pics of it:

that's a great price!

for what they're selling for lately, you could turn around and sell it and make more than that

LOL - I think you misunderstand me - I'm not looking for assurance on whether it looks good or not - I have just heard that these guitars have pretty narrow necks, and I'm wondering if it could be a problem.

Hehe... GuitaRasmus, I think what they are trying to say is that it's such a good deal for an EVH that you should take it even if you end up not liking the neck. They go for quite a bit more than that, so if you had to you could flip it, make a profit, and then get your pacific blueburst....

Of course I could be wrong too...

that is an issue you will get used to.. its like going from a 4 string stingray to a 5 string.. the outer strings are closer to the edge, but as long as you know about it, its no problem ;)

and for 1500 bux you really should buy it anyways! like it or not, you will own a rare piece of history!

MrM

ps: i paid 2500 for mine here in norway, so you know you got a good deal!

Not neccessarily - I've just heard rumors about it being so narrow, that the strings have a tendency to get pulled off the fretboard.

Well the neck is narrow - for me that's great - but I don't have a light touch and even on my AL sometimes the string has slipped off the edge.

It's no big deal and can easily be adjusted for.

The price you have been quoted on the EVH is a bargain and if you don't like it you will always get all your money back on it.

I don't know about using the argumentation of turning it around - There is practically no market for these here in Denmark, and then I'd have to ebay it - not my favourite kind of marketplace.

I'm thinking - It's the wrong colour, it hasn't got comfort contours (only the axis has those, right?), and it has a narrow fretboard plus it has the switch in a, to me, awkward spot, and unsplittable pickups. I think I'll let it go, unless the deal gets sweeter.

Judging by looks only, I don't really see the big deal with these old EVH's. The current finishes look much much better imo.

I do find that my Axis SS narrow neck does make me remember that I'm playing this an not my Sub1 or one of my other guitars with wider necks. I will push strings off the frets until I get used to it again. Then all's well. You'll get used to it....but you do have to compensate.

Okay, now I'm confused - does it have the same neck width as the Axis SS? In that case, there is no problem, since I've owned one of those.
