First gig in 30 years

This morning, I played my first gig in....like....30 years (actually more, but I don't want to count any higher). It was with a church band in a really big church (they rotate 3 bands through) and got to use all kinds of cool equipment that I never had in my garage days. (pedal fx pod, monitor) Did well and had a lot of fun at it. Used the Axis Super Sport as my main......and because I hear it so many times here, had the Sub1 sitting at the ready as my backup. I actually had "EVHized" one of the solos prior...in practice, but the song ended up getting dropped because we were over on time. Oh well.....

Now, it's off to get strap locks. And maybe an fx pod.

They have an XT Live, so I'm thinking of just matching exactly what they have. No real rush. I practiced SOOOOO much ahead of time. Made up my own variations on the solos. I did start to panic when we dropped a song (must not have gotten that message) but luckily, the bass player next to me had the song up on his laptop, so I scrambled through my papers and was ok. Since my lead started the song, I figured it would be a good thing to be playing the right song.....

The XT is awesome and you can get a second hand one very cheaply because of the more recent X3.

My last gig was only a mere 27 years ago. I am amazed at how I ever remembered 4-5 sets worth of songs back then, and now I keep forgetting where I put my car keys. lol

Congratz Jack. I am in your exact same boat. Except you have to drop the 0 after the 3 for me. The last gig I did was in Septemer 05 right before I got married. Since then my gear had been in storage and I sold all my gear but my guitars. Last Thursday I had my first practice. (go figure with a band of a large church) That practice is what spawned the thread about my wife wanting to get me a Silo Spec.

I know what you are going through. I joined my current band just over a year ago. The amount of time that lapsed between my last gig with my band in high school to the first gig with my current band was 21 years. In those 21 years I got two Engineering degrees, got married, had two kids, bought and fixed up a house, etc. etc. etc. It was all just a distraction until I could get back to playing again.

Practiced with band #2 there Wednesday....my plan is to become the rotating guitarist so I can go on every week. They don't have a "rotating guitarist" spot....yet. I'm pretty good with mind control, so just need to work some Voodoo. I show up to practice with band #3 next week.....

POD spotted last night - on BBC 4 there was a great documentary on Roxy Music.

I just didn't get them when they hit the scene - I do now, and I forgot how many great songs they recorded.

Anyway ENO was in the recording studio, and yes he was going through a Kidney Bean Pod.
For the money they are a great buy.

That's awesome that you are playing again. Must feel good. Though....since it's been 30 years, I'd definitely say try some other options before immediately going with Line 6.

Having owned an XT and a 2.0, I would say that in the 2.0 the core sounds, to my ears, are much better. Though the XT is far more flexible.
