Here's a mod I'd love on EB Vintage Trem guitars

I'm fiddling around with the trem claw, setting up the floating trem on my LEAL.

I've got one spring on at the mo - taken one off whilst I adjust it, and it's still a bitch to slacken the trem claw screw using a phillips #2 screwdriver.

I wish the screws were allen headed instead - maybe then I could get more oooomph behind it , and the screwdriver would be less prone to slip.

Ya know Grump, thats exactly what I want.

Wonder if anybody from EB technical dept could state what size screws are used in the manufacturing process - are they No. 8, 9,10 screws, what dimensions are they?

I always thought using just wood screws, rather than a more secure bolt/sleeve insert type of arrangement, seemed awfully primitive in this day and age.

How would they keep the "sleeve" from pulling out of the wood?

I guess one way would be to thread the sleeve and epoxy it in. The base of the sleeve could have a hole in it so that the sleeve itself is screwed into the guitar.

I suppose the wood screw method works just fine, hence why there have not been any improvements in this area. I suppose this is the same for attaching the neck.

Hey "Mr Hardtail" the problem is that it doesn't work all too easily.
It's very difficult to adjust the claw - I'm using new screwdriver bits and its very tight even with some "lube" on the threads.
To set up a floating trem means lots of adjustments and one day that screwdriver is gonna slip. ( I do pack some cloth between the claw and the trem block to save the guitar if it does slip).

I'm with Candid on this and would love to have a guitar with sleeves that accommodate say 2BA thread screws with allen heads). Adjustments would then be a doddle !!

I dunno, a wood screw just has always struck me as being a crude way to do it, especially in a finely finished guitar, yet I know of no one using another method, so there must be a reason for it.
