I mentioned this in one of the threads. I though it would be interested seeing side profile pics of the various neck profiles. We have seen drawings and of course pics from the front and back but pics from th side would show thickness. I keep hearing things like the Al neck is chunk, the ASS is asymetrical. So come on guys if you don't mind being bothered take a pic of your neck from a side profile and post it. Thanks

I agree ... and maybee use other brand necks as comparison. Like a standard fender c . Thats a neck most guitar players are familier with. Maybe compare a jp with a ibanez wizard neck.

64 - Yes that is the kind of thing I used. I have one just like that from a £ shop in the UK (where everything costs £1 )

The one I actually used is metal and the "moving fingers" that make take up the profile are like needles. You therefore get a more accurate profile.

Although looking back on that thread it is quite crude the way I cut it out :) - but still it gives an idea of the AL's shape - which I don't find at all chunky (and I ain't got large hands!!)

Yes I have it is actually part of what got me thinking. That was great by the way

hmmm, I'll go home and cut my EVH and Axis SS necks in half so I can post pix tomorrow.

No need to cut the neck just a side profile pic of two will do. ;)

What spud did in that thread is way more than I was thinking for this although if someone want to go that far that would rock. A side profile pic would give us a ruff visual about the girth of these necks. I went from playing super thin necks in my younger days to playing much thicker ones. The guitars I have played for the last 5-6+ years all had the U and 59 profiles and of course EB doesn't have any necks near that thick.

I think I once asked for volunteers to do a similar measurement using a profile guage.
So we would need someone to do a Luke, someone else to do a Silo etc etc.

We often get queries on the forum regarding neck profiles and if we had a thread (like mine) showing all the neck profiles then we could refer people to the thread .

So do we have any volunteers out there chaps and chapesses?

I could do my EVH?

:D I am glad to see some people are probably going help out. Once again I just want to throw out there that what I am looking for that pic. The thing with gauges would be awsome but if someone doesn't want to do all the measuring the pic would be great!

I´m not sure if I got it right. Is that what you think? (left: AL, right: Morse)

Actually yes that is pretty much was I was thinking. Can you post the SM alone or a side by side. Since the are not right neck to each other my perception is a but off but the Al's neck looks to have some meat on it.

My Axis Sport neck measures .822" at the 1st fret and .917" at the 12th.

The asymmetrical shape of the neck makes it feel much thinner.
