Nice evening. Watched about 40 minutes of the debate, then had sushi w my old bass player.
We hooked up with Norm at the club around 8:30. Hung outside. Trev went on a bit before 9 and was terrific playing wise and stage presence wise. Takes after his old man. Very cool seeing so many Lukes on the guitar rack, and Trevs that actually say Trev on the headstock.
Chatted with BP and Brian a bit before Luke went on. Man Sterling looks like a different guy! Seems like only 10-12 years are seperating him and brian now.
I wish I was more familiar w Lukes material. He played mostly his red luke and his dargie. Also pulled out an ovation for a tune...Hey why not just a Luke with a piezo??
Some great moments were his long windy slow burning solo, his steely dan sounding cut from his new one, so what by miles davis, party in simons pants, and the tune he did with Trev.
Actually the hug they did on stage when Luke called him up was one of the great moments in recent concert going for me. Not sure if Norm captured that moment but it was a real tear jerker.
Luke also played a tune the guy sitting next to me said was from the 3rd toto album and kind of dedicated it to his ex-wife who was there with some family i think.
He also showed lots of love for sterling, brian, and Jeff porcaro.
Thanks for a great time Luke! Left at midnight with Luke playing his bahama BFR.
