Just wanted to give you guys a heads up if anyone is looking for guitar player focused recording software. I am using RiffWorks by Sonoma Wire Works, it is fabulous and easy to use. The Software alone is about 100.00, but you will need some way to interface to USB for your computer. That bundle is about 150.00 I use the KORG Pandora PX5D, great little box; it has a USB out, so that is covered. Anyway, in a nutshell, the software comes with various drum beats, you can turn up the intensity so it will add fills, rolls, etc. Most beats have intros, verses, chorus, bridge, etc. More beats can be purchased online ( come to you as a download ) for 10 bucks each. There are beats for purchase by a few famous drummers as well ( Matt Sorum of G-N-R and Velvet Revolver for one). I have a few of his beats, they are awesome. You can also turn up the intensity, etc, after you have recorded as well. For example, I have a drum beat w/ rythmn, bass, and rythmn distortion guitar. I copy it, lay down a solo on each separate track, and put them together into a song. I can then go through afterwards and adjust volume levels on all instruments in each track separately, and change the drums, ( adjusting the drums in certain places in the middle and end to add fills, rolls, even changing the drumbeat from the verse to a chorus beat, etc.)

Everything can be customized, drum level volume, instrument volumes, EQ, before and after recording. You can picka drum beat, switch it to any tempo you like ( they have 4/4, 6/8, all kinds of beats) choose the # of measures, and lay something down. You can overlay and overlay tracks as well.

For example, you pick a drum beat, a tempo, and # of measures. You lay down a rythmn track until you like it. If you don't like it, you can delete the track and start over. Once you get one where you like it, lay down a bass track (separate track) Once you get on you like, after you have tried and deleted a few maybe, you can lay down a rythmn distortion or whatever you like. You can then duplicate the riff as many times as you like, and once it becomes a new riff you can mute any of the tracks, delete some, add a solo track. There is also a feature for vocals and solos where you can record over the whole song as well, instead of just within the tracks.

All the tracks flow into each other seamlessly. You can then pull into I-Tunes or whatever you use, import, burn to a CD, it is great. It sounds like studio quality. The only thing holding it back from studio quality is you can't get the volume levels on the CD quite as loud as a professional music CD without clipping, but it is pretty close. I am going to see if I can raise the Master Volume more and get a little closer.

I could write a few more pages easily on this stuff. Overall, best 100 bucks I have spent, other than on my Peterson Strobe Tuner (200.00), and soon to be my EB Axis SS. Check it out, MusiciansFriend has it, look at the reviews, I'm not the only one raving. This stuff is so user friendly and easy to use as well, you don't need to be a recording engineer or computer nerd. This stuff lets you just play and record without stressing you out with all the technical aspects of being a recording expert. Customer service is great as well. Later!

Hi Rufedges. I'm a long time user and a beta tester. GuitarSlinger on the forums there.

There are alot of programs that are very capable out there so I don't try to push it much here, even though I'm a big spammer of EBMM over there as well. :)

But you hit the nail on the head, Riffworks is very guitar oriented and super easy to use. Makes an awesome practice tool and scetchpad for those who want to do more in another program. But mainly it's just a whole lot of fun.

I always recommend people try the free demo with online collaboration built in to see if it is to their liking. I hope I see you on Rifflink, we can have a chat there.
