I have had this bass for a year now its a maple neck 2 EQ natural body black scratch plate ...1977 4 sting bass...in very good condition the only thing i have found is said on the neck when removed... march 1977 in blue ink stamp. The 3 hole neck plate is not origional so no serial number and is about the same size as the stringray but just blank.
My friend has the same bass and has had it for years one of the reasons I got this one and to put them side by side there the same in every detal..

So how if any way do I go about finding the S /N ANY HELP Stewart

I'd say that unless Gav shows up and pulls a miracle out of his @$$, there's no way to tell what the serial is.

Oh, and BTW, "no pics, no bass". We want to see that puppy. Welcome to the forum.

Simply put, your serial number is long gone, sorry.

If you want a correct MM neck plate with a serial number, then ebay is your only bet. The 76 to early78 had the serials on the neck plate, so that's what you'd want a plate from, but they ain't cheap!
Late 78 changed to serials on the bridge.

If there's no serial on the bridge then the only other place it could be is on the neck plate...but if it's not original then that seems to be the end of it unless the the previous owner has recorded it somewhere.

You could get lucky...maybe unscrew the pre-amp control plate and have a very careful look in the cavity or on the back of the plate. It may even be scratched on the reverse of the neck plate, underneath the pickup, underneath the battery plate or in the battery cavity.

With no neck plate your only real answer would be on the Pots them self, 99% of all Pots will have the date they we're manufactured right down to the week of that year, that will be even more accurate then an actual neck plate with a serial number.
