Thanks everyone. Those are some beautiful axes at Bass Central.

I have another question. What are the differences, sound quality or otherwise, between the HS and HH models? I watched Ed Friedland's Bongo 6 video on YouTube so I've got a pretty good idea of what the HS sounds like.

Thanks again.

all pickup configurations have their own distinct qualities, i personally havent had the opportunity to play around with as many bongos as id like but i would suggest you take a look at

Hi all, long time lurker, first time post.

I ordered my Bongo 6 fretless back in May and it arrived a few weeks ago. What an amazing bass. It is everything I love about my Bongo 5 HH and then some. I love the single coil sound: a very rich refined sound. The bridge humbucker has all the raw growl. Best of both worlds I think. The neck is to die for, I have never played a more comfortable neck 4, 5 or 6 string. Hats off to the guys at Ernie Ball/Music Man...you have truely out done yourselves with the Bongo 6. To the OP, if you love the Bongo 5, you are going to love the Bongo 6.

wow candy red looks amazing on daylight! When I finally though I had decided my favorite color, you do this to me :(

Put frets on that and it would be my dream bass. Nice score!

I've done it again

I ran across a 2008 LE in a shop North of TO last week and I could'nt stop myself from buying it. Now my Bongo 6 fretless has a fretted companion. Had to let my Bongo 5 2006 LE go though:(

Here are the pics (sorry for hijacking this tread for a second time):

That there is a man's Bongo, eh?

congrats

Jack

Thanks all,
Its not the size of the Bongo, it's what you do with it....Naw, on second thought, it's the size.:D

PS: Thanks BP, late afternoon sun was directly behind me and it really brought out the beauty of that finish.

Hi Andrew,
The fretless is a HS, and the new fretted is a H. Both have that Bongo sound, but both are so different.

The HS fretless: The single by itself has this smooth, rich, uncomplicated sound. No growl, just a woody sincere tone. Add a bit of the bridge H and you get a thick, more complicated tone. Not growly like the same setting produced in my previous HH Bongo 5, just a richer, more complicated sound than the single pickup solo'd.

The H solo'd on the fretless has lots of trebly bite with a touch of growl. Add a bit of the S pickup and the low end thickens and the low mids seem more present. My favourite sound on the fretless is with 65% bias towards the bridge H and 35% of the neck S.

The new Sequoia gold Bongo 6 H, is a beast. It growls big and deep like a teased and taunted pit bull. A tweak of the EQ knobs gentle the beast to give a more civilized tone, but that wide open growl when you play directly over the pickup is addicting. Add a smidge of mid boost and that doggy barks too.

Which one do I prefer? When I play the fretless HS, I miss the H. When I play the fretted H, I miss the fretless HS. Both are tone monsters, both sound like a Bongo should. But the H is the bad boy of the two when unbridled by setting the eq flat. The HS is just the opposite, it needs a bit of eq for it to lose its sweet disposition. I love them both. Once again hats off to the Music Man Team for producing such excellent instruments.
