I've never seen that kind of problem before and I've used paypal about a thousand times. Call them, they have pretty good customer service. Are you the sender or receiver? I'm betting you're the sender. Was it an Ebay thing?

Hey Spud,
I had something similar, and it transpired that Paypal we auditting my account, when I called up the call centre they said my account was in good standing but I had to go through a validation process,

I then had to wait 10 days for them to put 3p into my account and then take it out again to prove I wasn't the biggest Drug dealer in Inverness!

Hope it works out my friend, PM me if you're buying something nice!

They did the same thing with me, only using North American currency;).

And I couldn't find any way to actually speak to anyone through customer service at PayPal - I had to do everything through email, and even when I provided my phone number to receive a call, it was totally automated. If anyone has a "live person" number for PayPal, I would consider it a huge favour it if could be shared with me (and possibly others would like it as well).

Spud,
I just spoke to PayPal and they said that Bevan needs to call them and tell them that this is a legitimate transacation and they will release the funds. Apparently something about it set off a red flag and they put a hold on the money.

If he logs into his account and clicks the link
"PayPal can help you resolve problem transactions" under "my account", "resolution center", and then clicks the "service center" link under "Help by Phone" he'll get a temporary pin number that he can use when he calls the toll free number...

Thanks Ernie.
Nah it wasn't an Ebay thing. just wanted to get money transferred using good ol "E services" - had a ridiculous exchange rate from sterling into dollars, but was prepared to swallow that.

It just left me feeling a bit helpless what with being away from home and unable to do as much as I would have wanted.

Fred has helped me with this problem and has given me sound advice.

Learning point for me - don't use paypal again. (but I know that you have had few problems)

Once again thanks for the advice everybody - I'm home now and will kick butt tomorrow.

Have had nothing but positive transactions with Pay Pal, except for the occasional security holdup, which ultimately benefits me.

Just thought I'd update this to vent my anger at the way paypal rips off people!!

I'm so glad to say that at leat the money has been received by the payee.
But do ya think that this is right?

1) My son initially used his paypal account to credit the payee with xxx hundred dollars.
My son buys a lot of vinyl and pays for this via paypal with no problems.
On my son trying to pay there is a problem - which we cannot resolve.
2) His house mate offers to do the deal and uses his paypal account (he also has had no problems in the past and has more than enough money in his account)- the transaction goes through at the "housemates" end and money is debited from his account.
3) The payer contacts me and says that paypal has the transaction under investigation and "red flags it". Paypal do not credit the payees account.
4) The payee gets info from paypal to say that the payer will receive a letter from paypal regarding the transaction within 7 days - no letter turns up!
5) My son tries again with the transaction (now with a worse dollar stirling exchange rate, therefore it costs me marginally more! The transaction goes through this time no problem.
6)His housemate now after over 2 weeks gets money refunded into his account - no not the full amount but a lesser sum because of the worsening exchange rate.

So paypal have had what is effectively an interest free loan for a couple of weeks, and have paid back a lesser amount - sorry guys I know this isn't a "paypal forum" - the transaction was for an old road dog of an EB guitar but i'm so angry PAYPAL sucks big time.

I'll be sending them feedback !!!

Spud, does this have something to do with lack of a verified shipping address?

If so, this isn't the fault of PayPal, but a stipulation of the seller to only accept a PayPal payments from someone with a verified shipping address. This is a security feature that PayPal offers to sellers, which prevents an identity thief from receiving an item at their address which the buyer has been charged for.

I don't know if this is the problem or not; thought I'd mention it just in case.

Candid - that's a good point and I will check it out this end to ensure that it's all ok.

But Pi55Pal said that they had issued a letter to him and it doesn't turn up! which delays the matter.
