Question Wiring in bridge pup into Albert

Hello I have a question for members about wiring.

I like the sound of the neck and midle pup in my Albert but find the bridge pup too weak.I bought a Seymore Duncan stacked rail pup(or Jeff beck JR) for this purpose.Can i just go ahead and remove the old pup and wire the new one in while keeping the noise canceling circut still in place?.Or do you have to unhook or bypass the 9 volt system.

So in short just taking out the stock bridge pup and soldering in the new one as is.Not sure if this will conflict with the stock circut wiring.

You only want the Silent Circuit to be wired up to pickups that hum. What happens if you wire it up to a humbucking p'up (like a stacked single) is that it will actually introduce hum, where there wasn't any before.

So- keep the other pickups wired the same. With the bridge, remove the old p'up and wire the hot of the new one to the wiring harness (where the old bridge was before) and the ground to ground, and not to the blue of the Silent Circuit where the old one was. Should be fine.

That p'up is pretty hot though- it's going to be quite a bit louder than your other p'ups. Might find it overwhelms them. If you were going for noiseless but didn't want the full humbucker sound, you might find a few other pickups that balance well (Bill Lawrence L200, Dimarzio Area 61 or 58, etc.), just my two cents.

Thats exactly what i needed to know about silent system.That pick up is too hot your right about that and the miss match.There is an SD little 59 that is less hot and should fit in nicely ....i dont have a supplier for the Bill Lawrence ones that you suggeted are they good?.

I have loved the sound of any Bill Lawrence pickup I have ever heard.

I put the SD little 59 in an Al I no longer have but it sounded great, heard great things about the bill lawrence just never seen or heard one.

Beej - have you ever tried a Lawrence L-298? Wonder how it would saound inteh bridge position of an Al or a Silo Spec? What ncek and middle pups would compliment it?

Indeed I have. I've had L280s, L200s and I tried an L290 and L298 in my AL.

The 298 is more of an overwound single sound, whereas the 200 is more of a vintage single tone. L298 is a killer blues bridge p'up.

Both mate well with the 200s (vintage strat) or the 280s (more of an EMG type sound, very even across the frequencies).

One quick word on the Lawrences- they're about to introduce a low inductance "Microcoil", their new noiseless single. It's quite a departure from other noiseless singles, a very different design. The guys I've talked to that have played them say they're killer. Should be shipping in the next month- I'm buying a set or two as soon as they're out. Should be listed soon on the Wilde site. Bill is in his 70s and is still pushing the boundaries of pickup design. Remarkable.

Thanks all you guys for the help[ with this project of changing pups.Anybody care to give me their measurments for the perfect set-up on these Al's the strings are all set at 4/64 across the board and the relief is set at about .05 does this sound about right?.I still feel likethe strings are a little to high even though my other guitars are set at 4/64th the Albert still sems higher for somer reason.

Great, I'd think. I would favour it in the bridge, though. That's where it would shine.

I tend to do it by feel, not measurement. Get the neck as flat as possible with a tad of relief. Height measurements sound reasonable to me.
