In other words, I don't think it's such a change. Do you, really?

Jack

I was refering to that nobody has jumped on it and just dismissed other brands (in the super fan boy way) I whole heartedly agree that choice is a good thing, it appears that the choice of others here though is sometimes jumped upon as they are if they are saying something heretic.
I know that this is BP's place, he pays the bills and i love musicman guitars, but even he has commented on fanboy slaggings before.
I dont want to rock the boat , we are all here for the same reason:)
yes we guitarists are an odd breed, that is one thing nobody could argue about!

I guess it's the old being invited to dinner at someone else's house scenario. You are respectful even if you don't like the food etc. If you had a great time you look forward to going back. If not, you move on.

Actually the mere mention of "fanboy" is one of the silliest things you can do on a private forum...its like"Duh?" I am just really sick of internet cliche wielding posters. ONe trick pony...becomes urban legend...dont go over there they are fanboys...(and the person saying it isnt?)

D Stockden this isnt aimed at you but instead of adding value and input we got commentary for what we do just about all of the time.....

How about threads that are just really obvious..."brand z vs. MM?" or "I hate my Sterling" why would you be surprised if you got jumped on here?

I think that DStockden is probably reacting to the easy and false labeling other forums ay slag on us...really show me a thread that has been allowed to bash another manufacturer? SHow me a time where a mod didnt stop it...I read the other forums and I think most of them are more biased then we are here.

I dont go to harmony Central anymore....those guys are ust a bunch of homo sapiens."
Thats how stupid shallowly putting all of us in the fanboy sounds." Yeah they arent biased at Talk Bass..just here...give me a break

OK BP i over reacted,
maybe it was a bad day at the office i dont know,
I value your hnoesty as you appear to be a man after my own heart (no nonsense)
Yes you are right i have seen on some other forums bashing of other brands (we all know about the tops that suck).
i think maybe i was involving office type politics into an environment where they arent needed.
I am going to do something that comes very hard to me (cause i dont do it unless i really mean it)...............
I apologise to anyone i may have offended, pissed off or generally made think i am a fuuuhead.

Ebmm - prs

I currently have a 2006 JP6 non piezo and just love it.. also have a blue Morse coming in about 3 weeks.... (the first model with the 4 pickups) + i just put a deposit (Dean soltero trade-in) on a PRS USA Tremonti (10 top, Grey black flametop) but that one will be on layaway for a while lol.. now the GAS is dormant hopefully for a few years!!

Love the EBMM Guitars but also love the PRS's!

And now a word from a tight-ass scotsman,
Money makes the world go round, and in these times disposable income is in short supply,

EB in relation to other manufacturers in my opinion make quality instruments, but at a price (what I would class) as a regular joe could afford.

Some of the 'other' companies, I feel have been making stuff beyond the reach of the average joe and are now having to produce 'no frills' models to compete and get folks to open thier wallets.

The EBMM guitars I have bought new (Only 2 I'm afraid) we're 'semi-painful' to buy what I mean is that in one case I had to put money away for a few months (the 8 month order window has it's advantages) - and the other I put on a credit card, but what I mean is that they're affordable - maybe you can't pay for them all in a one-r but managable. Where as 'other' companies are breaching the £3K mark - and don't get me wrong, some sexy wood, killer tones, but unless you're a pro you struggle to justify the expense to yourself and your family.

DOn't get me wrong made in china stuff stinks and you could argue - I'm not good enough - till you get down to buying guitars for 100 bucks, but the EBMM prodcuts (IMHO) allow you to get the pro tools at a sensible (reachable ) price.

I remember when I first started playing you could get a Gibson Les Paul Std for £500, now they're triple that I didn't know EBMM when I started but from what I can see the pricing hasn't exactly shot up, seems pretty constant and when price rises come up Poppa seems to hold them off more and for longer than other companies - this isn't a fanboy post, this is from a consumer who'd cut and run if he thought he could get a better product for similar money, but to my mind (which may well be limited!) - EBMM best for your buck.

For me the something different element you get here is always the final thing to get my visa out, but all of the above are factors to get me there,

I do hope this all makes sense!

I don't get to drop alot of coin on guitars too often, so I'm always looking at value, necessity, playability, and sound over AAA flametops and other features that have nothing to do with the sound. EBMM's are not cheap by any means imo, but value per dollar seems outstanding.

(how long will it take to get to Pete Dubaldo's from Boston? ...

100% dependant on what time you leave Boston and what day. Traffic, you know. If you land on Sunday, with no real traffic, it's slightly over 2 hours. Easy freeway (well....toll road) driving. 90 west to 84 west and they're in Manchester, in the eastern outskirts of Hartford.

If you land at 4 pm on a weekday, add an hour to that.

Well, what a coincidence!

I took the bus, and I really enjoyed it. Took a little under two hours to get there in total. A cab would've cost about $250 to Hartford one way, so I really don't recommend that! That would be about one third of the guitar price both ways. Not quite worth it, if you ask me. All in all, Pete is truly a great guy and really pleasant to deal with!

As for the "law" (referring to the post you quoted), I wasn't aware there was any law that prohibited travellers to purchase any goods in foreign countries. As long as you pay your duty at the customs when you arrive at your country of residence. Then again, if you had nothing to declare, you wouldn't necessarily have to pay any of that either.

It's a bit wierd seeing one of my old comments resurface. Thanks for the travel advice - I might well try it out when I'm next through Boston.

Octavarius - you can buy anything anywhere. The comment about breaking the law refers to those who buy guitars in the US and then try to bring them into the UK WITHOUT declaring them and paying the customs charges. Whilst I'm saying this it's worth pointing out that I have UK shop receipts for all my guitars.

i've tried many custom shop stuff
nothing beats ebmm
everytime you pick a custom shop guitar (no matter what brand) you say whoa this guitar kills
but when you pick the ebmm, it's like your hand extended, it instantly becomes a part of your body.
had i known about the silo before i bought my str*t :)

i think their forte is the petrucci model, which i honestly believe is the best guitar ever made for the gigging musician, but others might disagree
