Any of you own a sub1 and a axis or other ebmm .How do they compare for tone and feel. I know they are not finished so nice and dont have the body chamfers. Do they use the same pickups or cheaper versions? I might buy one or should I save for a axis? I already have a silo and will be buying used.

The Sub 1 pickups are custom wound Music Man pickups. They look alot like a DiMarzio but they aren't, I am told. They probably sound alot like a particular DiMarzio pup too; which one I don't know. Maybe a Paf Pro. The Axis pups are custom DiMarzio made to EBMM specs. I don't have an Axis so I would have to defer to others as to what model DiMarzio they would be most like.

I wouldn't say the Sub 1 pickups are cheaper... They are pretty nice sounding pickup. To me they seem to have a little more mid response. Maybe they did cost less to produce, but I doubt it was significantly less.
I especially like and use the Sub 1 neck pickup.

Since you already have a Silo, why not get an Axis rather than a Sub 1. The Axis would be more of a contrasting guitar. Have you considered an Al? An Al would be a great complimentary guitar with a twin hummer Silo.

is your silo humbucking? i had both at the same time. buy a sub and if you want an axis save for that later. the sub will keep you busy. i liked it, it was more comfortable but i didnt like the saddles. the axis sounds better and i like the neck better but the sub is the best bang for the buck ever. the only reason not to get a sub is if you think the silo and sub will cover the same sonic ground and in that case if you dont need a sub get the axis

I have sss and hsh guards for my silo. It's an old 6 bolt with trem and locking nut.So I am thinking about getting a hard tail. So maybe an Axis sport!

I've both Axis SS and Sub1. There is quite a difference in tone. The Sub1 is more vintage (not vintage, but leaning towards it) while the ASS is more modern (not quite modern, but leaning towards it). I think the Axis has more mids and lows and the Sub sounds more balanced.

I think I recall BP mentioning the Sub1 pickups were made in Korea, not by EBMM.

If you want something that is closer to your Silhouette in terms of sound, go for the Sub1. If you want something different, then go for the Axis.

The above is just comparing the humbuckers. Keep in mind that if you go with an Axis SS, you'll get some split coil options. Check out this video:

Fantastic.Thanks.I want that Axis, so I'm going to try to sell my Gibson SG classic to add to my savings and look for an Axis hard tail to go with my Silo .

I recall BP said they wer made by some obscure guitar company in Korea. However, I was not sure if he was kidding or not. It was my understanding that everything in the Sub 1 was made-in-USA. At least I hope so.

That player in the vid sounds great. Is that you Eilif?

Whoa dude! Your Silo sure is sweet. Very nice in all natural with the black guard.
Reminds me of an early 70's $trat only better.

Congrats on the great score.

Nice guitar! I love my Axis,.....I play mostly rock,..but I can get those sort-of Stevie Ray clean sounds with my axis,.....I just need a tube-screamer to get the dirty ones.
