I was once one of those who didn't GET the Bongo. I mean I thought with a name like Bongo, that the bass was made for slapping. That is NOT my style, so I never tried one. Well I bought a 4 string Bongo for my son, and tried it. Well, let me tell you I was impressed. So much that as we speak I am on UPS watch as I heard those 3 magic words today...Out For Delivery!:D

Sounds like a real winner - oozing with intelligence & professionalism. "I'm not 'into' this bass, so I'm going to sabotage my own sales". I can probably guess who it was - I used to go to that store pretty often, before moving out to CO. That one, La Mesa, and the occasional drive to Rancho Cucamonga or Sherman Oaks.

Whereever that is, I want to be. :D

So...a "professional" sales person doesn't ask the customer what he/she is looking for and match em up...he just sells stuff he likes? Hmmm, wouldn't last a day under my watch. But then again even the GC I frequent never handed me a bongo, I had to ask to try it..I think even the sales person was amazed how good it sounded.

YOu know I sort of was asking for it making a bass that looked different.

THe solution is the next great guy coming out and playing it and then I will be guilty of temporary genius. Temporary I stress!

Interesting a sales person would say that.....

I get told I have amazing tone and that my bass sound is killer. I tell people (other musicians) it is all due to the bongo. Then I am told, " I don't like how it looks." SO.....I tell them...well...you can have killer tone or continue on with your crappy sound. Doesn't matter to me really. The bongo is the ultimate metal bass.

Can't wait to see the new one.

Great bass

Well I only just got on here again after being away a week or so and found this thread.
Like a lot of you I own a Bongo5. I have owned it this month for two years.:)
Went from slinky strings the the heaviest flat wounds EBMM makes.
What can I say nothing you already know, but I'll say it any way.
This bass is awesome, it just kicks butt.. It's looks can not be beat it's just a beauty.:D

It has me to the point I can hardly wait to play it even when I have no gig to play..
But when you gig this bass man dose it SING, it gives everything I ask of it .....:D The sounds are awesome simple as that.
I have nothing but words of praise for this bass.
After 40 ( in 40 years you can play a lot of different basses) some odd years of hunting for "THAT BASS" I have found it in more ways than anyone can imagine. (unless you own one) I just wish it hadn't taken all this time:eek:

My hats off to EBMM for making a bass I am proud to play anywhere and speak so highly of..

Thanks BP for making my Bongo5..:)

Best regards

Well said, amigo. Not much I could add to that!

Except I've now owned my "first" Bongo for......five years? Is that possible?

I still don't own a Bongo, but I truly appreciate it for the bass that it is. If I had the funds I would of snatched one up this last year. I think I really got what this bass was all about a couple of months ago. I was playing through a Markbass 121 combo set flat. I was trying different EBMM basses through it. None of them sounded that "big" without heavy EQ boosting. Then I plugged in a Bongo 5. After a couple tweeks of the EQ the Bongo OWNED that amp. I never knew that amp could produce those kind of lows. Wow that EQ is a monster. That is when I truly became aware of the power of that bass. Before it was just head knowledge, now its a true visceral experience.

As far as looks go, its fine with me. ;)

THe secret power of the bongo is that it gets its own space in the low end world of live and recording.....it is big round but defined and doessnt mud into the kick/left hand of the keyboard.

I was thinking along those exact lines at band practice last night!

The danger of the Bongo is that from time to time you start marveling at how great the tone is and you screw up the song......
