I have a JP6 and really like it alot but am thinking of getting a 20th Anniversay Silhouette. Can anyone compare the two and what is your preferred guitar?

Well, it depends what I'm after. I think the 20th does vintage-sounding tones really well. It's fantastic clean and dirty. It's very mid-rangey. It can really sing under high gain. The clean sound has a lot of punch with the right amp.

JP6 is a more specialized axe, I think. It does the hard-rock, metal stuff very well. It sounds awesome with the piezo. I imagine piezo-equipped 20th Silos do also.

What do I prefer? Well, I like both. I feel more at home on the JP6, though. It's just shaped exactly right for me. For me, it's easier to play. I'm more comfortable playing it.

Like I said, I like both. The JP F-1 will be a great marriage of the two. If all goes according to plan, I think I'm getting one of those this year.

Recently had opportunity to try out a 20th Silo .... ooh la la:D
Gotta say, it handled real nice. Good cleans - can do some fine vintage styling. I was running thru a HR Deluxe and Vibro King - not my normal set-up. and, imho with the right amp/pedals it should be right at home with high gain, low gain and all shades of gain in between.
Not so much experience with JP6 - last 'road-test' was over a year ago while I was waiting for my first ASS to arrive ... not quite my cup of tea, but like any EBMM it really stood out from the rest of the crowd.

happy shopping and ..... and beware of b.a.s.

I have owned and played both the 20th and a couple of JP6s.

In my opinion the JP6 is pretty much what you would expect given JP's playing style and tone. The neck is very slim and very fast and the pickups are gorgeous with high gain. The 20th is a bit of a different animal. It has a really strong bottom end, very rich sounding and smooth. It shares those characteristics with the Gibson Les Paul. The clean sounds are vibrant and sparkle, especially in the middle position. It's a very flexible instrument, in fact the most flexible I have ever owned.

IMHO two totally different guitars, the only similarity I think would be the 24fret Neck.

JP= Thin neck, 15" Radius, 1 11/6 nut, hotter pickups, floating trem, different switching system.

20th= Thicker rounder neck, 10" Radius, 1 5/8 nut, Vintage sounding pick ups, vintage trem or stoptail, standard 3 way toggle switch,

The JP is really different than any other Music Man guitar.

At this point in time The 20th gets most of my love. I truly love this guitar it just feels soooooooooooooooooooo goooooooooooooood. I don't know what MM did with the neck on this guitar but it feels even better than my Silo Sp.

Any way sorry to ramble hope this helps.

20th

i also own a 2oth anniversary silo and for me this is the greatest guitar in the world!! sounds really really great, vintage but also good for rock and hardrock, bluesy if you play a little bit with the volume poti and clean its a real unbelievable sound for a humbucking guitar especcially in the middle position, before i got this wonderful guitar i played things like les paul or strat, but this guitar is a guitar for lifetime, the neck is also absolutly ubelievable, thank you bringing out this wonderful guitar musicman.

Good information on the 20th here. I bought mine new and it was never displayed or played at the dealer. It is still that way because I have not decided whether to keep it or sell it. It still has the original strings from 2006 when it shipped and it has never been played or plugged into an amp. Just sitting in it's 20th case full of desiccant bags that get changed routinely. I'll decide one of these days.

I get that, but I don't get that. I'm someone who would prefer to beat the tar out of it, although I take extraordinary care of my JP6 for some reason.

Considering there are only 39 ever made (26 RW and 13 maple), I'd say it's pretty hard to come by. But IF there's any chance that any surfaces, do what Dizzy did. He snapped it up immediately!

I still can't believe I got that one - what an axe - and it was up for grabs !!
I guess everyone was cashed out on BFR's ??

Yeah... you've got one. I've got one. I wonder where the other 37 are. If I came across a maple with a piezo, i'd jump on it for sure!:D

thats the ticket Glenn.

They are both sweet, BUT... to me, the bridge/trem is worth the price of admission on the JP6.

Very comfortable, ergonomic design, the middle position is unique and very useful.

And the 20th only came in one flavor.
