Looks like you want something for practice.........I have owned the KORG PX4, and now own the PX5D. It is great for jamming, looping, recording,........not so good for live,..... Not sure about the slowdown feature, I use it mostly for recording, creating, and jamming.

I have a Korg PX4D, and the comments here are correct - the quality NOSEDIVES when you slow down MP3s (via the AUX input). It's barely usable. The Amazing Slowdowner has shown me how good it CAN get. I'm eyeing the BOSS MicroBR now - as it has this feature, and doesn't appear to be much more expensive than the Tascam MP GT1. In addition, you get a mini 4 tracker. I don't have any experience with it's slow down quality though...

CM, yah it looks cool, but you need a laptop or some type of computer right? The Tascam fits in a guitar case and for the most part doesn't need any computer connection.

Very valid point you have there, Glenn, the portability of the Tascam is what sets it apart.
Of course if you have a laptop with you, then the Vox will allow you all those extra cool features.

+1 on that. I have thrown my Tascam into the guitar case and practiced at work on slow weekends. Definitely wins on the portability factor.
I also have a Line 6 TonePort system. Works very well, very unobtrusive, and I can record my mediocre playing for later deletion.

Not really, Glenn....I'm just eyeing it. I haven't bought it yet. As you know, funds are a bit tight at the moment.
On a slightly related note, remember that crazy deal you sent me a while back from Musician's Friend that got me to buy the Line6 Gearbox/Plugin? Line 6 recently released a new version called the Pod Farm. The interface has been completely redesigned, and is LIGHT YEARS ahead of the gearbox. Best of all, for those of us that bought the Gearbox/Plugin, it was a free upgrade. It is really sweet....I'm loving this thing for recording. I wish I could duplicate these tones with my amp!

I know you said that you really didn't want to be tethered to a computer but my fave is WinAmp with the Pacemaker and Loop Master plugins.
Pacemaker will transpose, slow tempo and get most of the pesky vocals out of the way.
Loopmaster does what it's name suggests.
The nice thing about it is that you can set up a play list for rehearsing or learning songs and the plugins will remember the settings that are on each of the songs.
For instance, if you're working on a song that is written in Eb but your band plays in E, you'll transpose the pitch once and never have to do it again. Or, if you've been working on getting a technical passage up to speed, the song will play at the same tempo it was set at the last time you were working on it.
Best of all.......it's all free!!!

Siggy, my instructor use to use that and she sweared by it, but she loved the Tascam stuff as well.
