Orange Firemist is HOT!

There's alot going on in this finish, folks. It gets lots of different GREAT looks. As I've said, the TPB pics are of course great, but you know how it is ... when you start handling the bass, and seeing it at different angles and in different lighting situations, you really see its true colors.

There are darker mandarin orange tones, reds, to amazingly cool copper tones. Occassionally I'll catch a subtle grape-fruit hue, at certain angles. Many times, if not most of the time, you get more than one color tone simultaneously. And then there's the metallic aspect of the finish. Firemist is one fine & funky finish, folks.

And I lucked out on the neck with this one, too. Besides being beautifully uniform and almost "bleached" light (which I love in a maple neck), it's got some gorgeous mild flaming to it. Not full-on, it's very subtle, but very visible ... diagonally oriented figuring to it. Just gorgeous. I'm totally infatuated.

BP, what a great color/finish, and as always, a top notch build that is sheer heaven to play.

Thanks again to you too, Brandt.

TPB pics have already been posted in another thread, but I'll add some of my own to this thread, probably this weekend.

By the way, any other OFM'ers on the forum so far? I HIGHLY recommend it (obviously). And the VWP pickguard is gorgeous with it.

Edit: I meant to say that I'd really love to know the different color layers involved for this finish, if that's not proprietary info. It looks too complex to just be multiple layers of a single mix. I'd be even more mind-blown if that's the case.

Peace!

Robert;

If you can, please show us a variety of lighting.

- Direct (flash)
- Indirect (ambient room light)
- Daylight, both indirect and full sun

With Desert Gold, the way it looks in photos is all about how it's lit. Desert Gold can look almost like a yellow-to-orange burst, but only under head-on lighting, like you get with a flash.

Can't wait to see it!

I really like the look of this colour from the pictures I have seen so far. To me, I imagine it looking really good on all models except the SR5.

It looks pretty sweet, can't wait to see some of your photos. That's what i love about EBMM finishes though, they're just beautiful and have lots of different colours in them. Like on my SUB basses, it's not just a boring textured finish, under thr right light at the right angle they look gorgeous and actually have a bit of sparkle in them, which i really like! Particularly the blue :)

Yeah, I'd like to see some of the others that I'm sure are like that - DG, TG, SG. But as we all know, you don't really find those in abundance on the showroom floor anywhere.

Interesting, I did not know that. I think the SUBs are really cool. I'm really curious about how the painted neck feels/is done on them. I'm wondering if it feels similar to my Bongo in that regard (which feels great).

I've been in a work-related class since Wednesday this week & am having a hard time paying attention ... I keep mentally playing my new OFM SR4.

Nah the neck doesn't feel anything like a bongo, i can't explain why though, they just feel totally different... And i may try and take a photo of my blue SUB looking all sparkly for you

I know the profile's different, I'm wondering specifically about the way the paint/finish feels under the thumb. You probably factored that into your answer, though.

That's what i mean, the paint on the back of the bongo's neck feels much smoother and satin-ish... for want of a better word.

That sparkle is quite hard to capture on a camera phone, but it gives you an idea

I love how musicman finishes have so much depth though, how do you do it BP? None of the photos of the SUBs you usually see do them justice. The finish doesn't look nearly as cheap in real life. :)
