Ok thanks again for the info. I was just curious about it as I am kind of "old school" when it comes to my guitars and basses and I never really researched about materials, just used wood.

However for me personally I wouldn't mind trying to build a lightweight really strong bass..just as a novelty, I can't imagine actually liking it enough to use pro..but oddball stuff is cool to have hanging around.

John Entwistle (the Who) used all graphite/polycarbon-fiber basses for a while. I prefer wood (don't even go there, some of you knuckleheads - you know who u are), but some (obviously) do like the characteristics of graphite/pcf for necks ... the supposedly even response, the density to weight ratio & low modulus of elasticity, etc ...

I tried it ... owned one or two ... just wasn't for me.

I prefer the touch and feel of rosewood, but I think than having both (rw & maple) is fine. Which means at least 2 basses, unless BP invents the switchable fretboard.

I am a fan of full rosewood necks! :)

Hmmmmm ... in times like these (pre-SSS-full-reveal, etc...), you have to examine EVERY utterance like this from EBMM folks who may be having fun just dropping hints all over the place in stealth mode. Consider this one from Dargin, in combination with Phatduckk's current "status" text, for example. ;)

So... after 3 weeks of running this poll it appears rosewood fretboards are the winner choice by 1 point to maple? or not??

I think I just tied it up. I was tossed between maple and rosewood..I like the sound of a rosewood boarded bass better all else being equal..however if asked what my "favorite" neck is..I love nothing more then the look of a maple board so that did lock it in it as my choice for the poll.

I like maple, it's easier to see in dark stages.

+1 :p

And it's punchier than rosewood. On the other hand, I like to make a bunch of different sounds, so I also like rosewood. I actually have the other two fretboard types, ebony in my only other non-MM bass. Everything is good for something.

I'm voting maple ín the birdseye sense.
I'd like an EBMM with birdseye neck and fretboard (very classy).
Having said that though, I love my fretless with pau ferro board and birdseye neck. It has lovely reddish stripes running along the length of the board mixed through the grain.

I usually prefer rosewood for the newer oil necks. After a while, maple tends to trap dirt and look fugly.
