Question Changes to the Y2D specs?

Hello all, it's been a little while

I'm wondering if there are any plans to change the Y2D's switching, as recent clips of Steve Morse show him using Y2Ds with an additional toggle switch.

What's it for and will it make it on to the production model?

If im right the model with the toggle switch was the prototype and did not go on....

The recent clinic video on the DiMarzio site shows a couple of Y2Ds with the additional toggle and these aren't the proto as they are bound with the dark purple pickups.

well because im pretty sure that those are the new dimarzio steve morse pickups, i guess from what i understand, so maybe steve changed from the cream/white pickups to the new ones that are dark purple...... maybe im wrong.
Maybe someone else on the forums knows.

As a proud owner of an orginal Morse Signature, the switching used in the Y2D is a regression ... I really would like to have a Y2D with the classic Morse switches (a 3 positions switch + a toggle for the bridge humbucker).

He didn´t, I saw him on Nov 8th & 15th with Deep Purple and the PUPs were cream as ever. He played this proto most of the time.
+ his #1 (Solo, Well Dressed Guitar, Sifls, Wring That Neck, Lazy)
+ De-Purple Burst Y2D with Floyd Rose (Perfect Strangers, Highway Star)
+ Purple Sunset Y2D, matching headstock, dark purple PUPs (Dropped D, Battle Rages On, Wrong Man)

I tend to agree with fbecir's opinion that the 5-way toggle switch is a regression comparing to the classic way of Morse-like switching. But, for Morse, there's no problem: he uses his No. 1 or the proto especially for the Dregs and Morse Band stuff, where he needs more different sounds. With Purple the Y2D switching is acceptable for him because most of the time he uses the bridge PU alone or the neck PU alone. That means that with Purple his 5-way switch is used in only 2 positions, which is far right or far left. It's obviously the easiest thing to toggle between this two positions. From that point of view one might say that it's even easier for Steve with a Y2D than with his No. 1 to do a Purple show. But for me it's a regression because I need an instrument that gives variety in a comfortable way. I have a SM Standard but do need a 2nd instrument as a back-up. So if there will be no chance to get a Y2D with two switches I'll have to buy another Standard model. That's kind of a pity as the Y2D is a beautiful instrument I would like to own.
Btw: In Cologne where he did a clinic last summer I asked Steve about his Y2D with blond PUPs, especially about the little black knob on the pickguard. He awnsered that it was a proto that first got the old switches and later was modified to the 5-way toggle switch. So I think the one that still has 2 switches is a proto too.

Yes, they did The Battle Rages On, at least in Oberhausen (Germany). The main theme they simplified a little, I think one or two notes were missing in comparison to the official released version on the DVD "Bombay Calling".

I have a SM-Y2D on order (that I'm being very patient waiting for) and I kind of hope that the latest Y2D specs DON'T include the toggle switch that is present on the older Steve Morse model. Although I haven't actually played the older model, like the Petrucci, I would think that the additional toggle switch would interfere with my strumming, when playing rhythm. That's one of the reasons I was attracted to the new Y2D Morse.
If I'm way off base here about the toggle switch interference, then.....................nevermind.

When my SM-Y2D finally arrives (even though I'm not being impatient ) I suspect it will be the favorite of my three Balls.

Sunburst and pickguard

I honestly decided to order Sunburst not only because I love this finish but for two other reasons. First is that I thought Blueburst is looked at as the guitar Steve Morse himself is playing, which might become kind of a heavy weight for a normal guitarist like me. Second is the simple fact that my wife liked Sunburst most.

As you can see on the attached picture the pickguard of my axe is glossy. I didn't expect that because I saw some pictures or movies with Morse playing a black or a sunburst model with matt black pickguard and I like the contrast between the glossy finish of the body and the matt finish of the pickguard. After that I asked for a matt one but they told me that they are no longer produced. So if someone here in the forum has one he should think about the possibility to send it to me!
