I'm back, with a new toy! (better pics)

(better updated pictures taken) I've been away for a while, but now I'm back to Musicman with a brand new bass! I still have my '06 SR5 HH, but my new bass just arrived 2 days ago! I apologize for the low quality photos. I will take better ones soon.

'01 Stingray NAMM, 99% mint condition, with paperwork and case.

I'm jealous and envious:p Nice find!!!

I regret not buying one of those brand new when I had the chance at a local music store near me back in 2001...:(

Thank you all for the compliments! I was thrilled to find it. Almost too mint to play it, but I have to! Moondog has made some EQ setting suggestions that I can't wait to try tonight.

Honestly, I cannot make a full fair comparison of necks yet because I have been mostly playing my Jazz V for quite a while now. Bad, I know. Anyway, the natural wood feel of the back of the neck of the SR5HH was always outstanding. The back of the graphite neck is somewhat similar to the back of my Jazz V neck. Almost like a satin finish feel. Not sticky at all, but no wood feel either. I've really only put about 20 minutes of playing into the NAMM bass because of a busy schedule and a cranky wife, but I will play it a lot more this weekend.

I will give more details after this weekend, and hopefully better pictures too. Thanks again!

You came back in style! How do you like it compared to a wood neck SR?

Good comeback! I thought my 20th/30th comeback was good, but that NAMM LE is amazing.:)

A 4H and a 5HH IMO is the best gigging pair of Stingrays you can have.

P.S. Play that SR4. A bass that nice is meant to be used.

Thank you all again for the compliments on the bass! I updated the first post with better pictures, and included bridge closeups. Moondog suggested to boost the bass a little, cut the mid a little, and boost the treble a little. That, along with the Ultra Low Classic setting on the Ampeg amp sounds awesome!
I was playing this morning in front of the baby. She lightly closed her finger in the desk drawer and started crying. I saw she was fine, but kept crying so I kept playing. The Stingray cut right through the loud crying! It was awesome! It was almost like trying to cut through a band setting. It worked perfectly!
After I was done, I decided to check the battery in the bass. It appears it still had the original Duracell battery too! The use before date says MAR 2005, and says "For Original Equipment ONLY. NOT FOR RESALE".
Thank you all again! I should have gotten one of these basses a long time ago!

Man, I am so jealous. I have been after one of them for a long time. I thought I had one out of Nashville, but then the seller decided not to sell.

Where did you find it?

I never noticed 1. Flea bridge

That's not a "Flea" bridge. It's an old stock pre-EB bridge used on the first StingRays. Hence a serial number starting with B. Hence the string-through body.

PS: Lovely bass! Funny how many of these are still in mint condition. Seems they went mainly to collectors. Or players who are afraid to play it. Like me.

That is a great bass (again, I'm not much for Rays but there have been some nice ones popping up here lately and I think that one is the best) - Hide it, play it... whatever, just enjoy it!

Congratulations. Those are way cool. Looks-wise and feature-wise, I love 'em. Hard to find a cooler looking 'Ray. Tonally, the carbon fiber neck on these wasn't for me (had one for a brief time, from BassCentral). My avatar is roughly indicative of how I like my eq (duh), particularly for slap, which I do >= 50% of the time. With that neck, I couldn't get that transparent mids sound that I like for slap, though maybe I could have with a different amp. As I recall, I did like the sound for finger-style, as well as the other general characteristics of the neck - fast and even.

Very sexy bass.

Thanks again for the compliments on the bass. It certainly deserves them! It is beautiful, and sounds awesome.

Graphite neck question: It is a little too curved right now. I need to straighten it a little. The strings are a little high. When I turn the wheel counter-clockwise, it gets to a tight point, and just stops. Clockwise just seems to get looser and looser. It seems to be the opposite of what the FAQ sections says, unless I'm reading that wrong (very possible). Seems to be the opposite of my SR5HH as well.

If turning the wheel counter-clockwise is how the straighten this neck, do I have to try to apply a little pressure by hand to straighten it, then turn the wheel more counter-clockwise? The last thing I want to do is force the wheel any tighter.
Thanks!

Attention!

The neck on the 100th NAMM is made by Status Graphite and feature a dual action truss-rod which is adjusted opposite to what the way the EBMM StingRay neck is! You can find this info on the Status Graphite website, and I just confirmed this on my 100th.

You are the best! I knew something felt funny. I should have went to the status website myself. This is exactly what is says:

"Older (pre-2003) graphite neck models :
Push the 5mm key firmly into the socket and turn it CLOCKWISE to bow the neck forwards and anti-clockwise to bow the neck backwards.
NOTE : This is the opposite way to most other truss-rods
."

Thank you again, and your new black Stingray is awesome! Now that you have the 100th out of the case, play it!
