Fred is probably the "only" one I haven't changed in & out of my Axis. The Norton sounds "REALLY" colorful too!!

The Axis sounds good with soooooooo many pickups, it makes it really nice for different styles.

I know, it is an amazing guitar, but I was just curious, because I love the harmonics of the FRED, and the warmth, and was considering doing a little swap.

Could you please elaborate on how the Norton sounds in the Axis and how it compares to the stock pickup? I am assuming you mean the Norton and not the Air Norton. Thanks.

Agt,

Yes, I mean the Norton not the Air Norton (big difference, not negatively, just musically).

I love experimenting with pickups especially DiMarzio. But, my Axis is basically my main guitar of choice (along with my Wolf), so, consequently, all my pickup choices will go in that guitar.

I was looking to perform some Boston tunes and I wanted to "nail" the sound! I had a Custom Burstbucker pickup to start. I didn't like it because the notes (colorwise) weren't vibrant, clear, luscious, as I wanted - so, I investigated and purchased a Norton - WOW!!!

What a dream pickup - the notes popped out with warmth (but not all "brown"), punch, aggression, colorful, etc. . . . I LOVE that pickup!! Great choice for ALL rock sounds.

Tone Zone: Big, powerful, nice pickup, but not a lot of character or personality
Super Distortion: Big, brown, warm, punchy, nice pickup, but you're in a cave, not a lot of light, color, clarity

well, I've done the reverse. I have a satriani guitar that I removed the FRED and put in an EVH bridge. For my ears, the EVH has more bite, whereas the FRED was smoother. The EVH seemed to have less mids overall as well.

Now that was in a full Mahoghany body, so characteristics might be different in the Axis.
