Hi
Been registered for a while but this is my first post it's also a bit of a cut and paste from the Boogie Board (where I post a fair amount) its a guitar related question and decided to post it over here also since this is more of a guitar driven forum.

For years all of my guitars with floating trems I have used 9 gauge strings till I got my first BFR JP6 which came with 10's. I have now started putting 10's on my Ibanez's also.

OK here is the cut and paste! thanks!

Hi
I have two JPM-100’s that I have used 9 gauge strings with for years I now have it in my head to use 10’s, anyway did the setup neck intonation and so on everything went well and pretty pleased with the overall results.
During the process had to add springs to my trem even with the claw maxed out there was not enough tension to keep the bridge.
OK!
Now the claw can support 5 springs so no problem there. On the trem however there are 5 holes 3 for springs and the other two for screws that hold a plate that goes over the springs. But since I needed more springs I sacrificed the 2 screw holes for the plate to add the extra springs. What has worked out if I pull the bar all of the way back there is still tension in the springs so I’m not that concerned about them falling out of the trem.

WHERE I NEED HELP!
I can’t seem to find allot on trem springs strengths, lengths and even gauges, I would really like to go back to 3 springs (stronger one’s) so I can put that cover back on to prevent the springs from slipping out.
Or maybe I should just drill 2 more holes in the trem this way I can put have the 5 springs and still put the cover plate back on.

I have not put the guitar through its paces yet but with the addition of 2 more springs a little concerned about over tones.
I really can’t find allot on the subject.

If you have been using floating trems for a while, you'd know that it takes a while for the spring tension to set in :D

I have changed from 8s to 9s to 10s on a Floyd based trem.. And,loosening or tightening the three springs worked for me.. Are you springs in good shape ? They might be ending their tensile life.. Dunno whether thats a correct term though..

And Congrats on the BFR Jp6!! As we say here.. No Pics.. No Guitar ;)

A warm welcome to the forum.. :)

Yeah I went for a new set of springs but even with the claw maxed did not cut it, but so close. I think this might be kind of a Ibanez thing also I don’t think the cavity is as long as say a Fender Strat (but I could be wrong). Got to say thought I kind of like the feel of the 5 springs I currently have in and now everything is adjusted up sounds great!! Funny part I did not know there were different trem springs out there till I got the new set home they were slightly shorter than what I had but not as beefy.
And Congrats on the BFR Jp6!! As we say here.. No Pics.. No Guitar ;)

Well then! If that’s the rule. (Better pics to come)
