I have been enjoying some time off work in the last 2 weeks, business is on a bit of a downtime as it always is at the beginning of the new year, car manufacturers are struggling and production is low so we get less shipments and get to spend more time at home with family and basses.
Whats' a man to do but play more bass?
As some of you know I've recently got this monster machine called the Bongo 5HHp, the thing scares me, ok? There! I admit it. So I have been threading on egg shells trying to tame it, approching with garlic and holy water. I have been constantly A/B-ing between "IT" and the StingRay5, soon as it bites I run back to the Ray with the tail between my legs
At the beginning I felt a bit confused, the preamp controls were slightly complicated for me. Now, at last I am slowly starting to familiarize with 2 of the most important controls which I think are the heart of this bass i.e. the low and high mids. Bass and treble, yeah we can all understand what they do, you either + or - some in order to "edge" either ends of the spectrum, but... by God Allmighty, thanks to those 2 mids controls I am able to customize sound shapes like a sculptor. And what I find most peculiar about all this, is that the Bongo is also helping me to appreciate what a great instrument the Stingray5 is, while this is all hi-tech and super duper leading edge design, when you pickup the Ray again, it feels like you're wearing your favourite comfort slippers & blanket, and something tells you, yeah you've been to the dark side and survived it, now you are rewarded with that unmistakable "welcome home" sensation you get, where everyone loves you and you really belong. Until the next time you "go there" of course, this is your life. Ahhh bliss.
To me the StingRay5 is like a machete, there's nothing it won't cut through, the Bongo on the other end, I compare to a Swiss Army knife, it will cut, chisel, uncork your wine bottle, open your beer bottles, cut your fingernails, tweez stuff, grip-pliers your nuts, cross head and flat head all your screws, toothpick and dental floss, sharpen stuff, points to the north with its compass, and even sew your buttons if you know how to. That's about it. If you have more please tell.
In conclusion, I can't praise enough the enjoyment I get from owning a product of a company that makes these great basses and guitars, and keep us all hooked, thanks to the genius of Ernie Ball and Sterling Ball we are all blessed with one of life treasures that will be hard to forget when we are old. We are only here on borrowed time so we must make the best we can with the best tools we can get. Loving it.
Long live EBMM
I just can't put 'em down
