So something I notice about my SS today when I was test driving some models at my local store is that on my 97 SS is that neck plate is flush with the heal of the guitar. The plate is sunken into the body. Is this something that they stop doing? I would think it would be a nice feature to have on a guitar. Can anyone tell me why they stop this? dose it weaken the neck joint?

we stopped because the labor and the fact that people in the field would over tighten the neck and crack the finish when it was flush and blame us

Those screwdriver wielding b*stards :D
That being said my 95' silo special has the recessed neck plate, my JP and Stingray,B6 do not....I never notice it feel wise either way.
