Newbie here,
New to the forum and new to bass. Been playing guitar for years though and I have a Luke than I'm very happy with. I've been diving into bass lately so when I found a used Bongo 5 at a local music store it seemed like fate so I jumped on it.
After messing with it long enough to develop some chops I started noticing some neck/action issues. So I took it to my tech(should have done it sooner!) and after messing with it for quite some time including getting a second opinion from another tech he concluded it had a "kink" right about the 3rd fret and there wasn't much he could do about it. He even did a complete fret level and didn't charge me for it since it didn't fix the problem. He said he'd be wiling to maybe try a few other things but this is a guy who won't charge for what he can't fix and I don't want to waste his time.
He suggested perhaps looking into getting a new neck for it. Another fellow said I should try to live with higher action as it would sound better anyway and would eliminate the fret buzz & issues with harmonics. Both of these guys have a very high opinion of Music Man basses in general.
Any suggestions? His work on my guitars has always been solid. I'm sure he'd be willing to try out any suggestions from other techs with more bass experience.
Thanks!
John...
p.s. What is a "kink" in the neck, anyway?
