I like the schaller system but i'm always worried about it loosening and i can't be like that.
The dunlops are safer but leave a big gap between the body of the bass and the strap, i don't like that because the cord is not tight enuff and can be yanked from the plug, or damage the output jack.

Can i get the EB straplocks at guitar center?
I've never seen them at other place than namm.

You most likely will have to take the strap off the bass with Dunlops and EBMMs...unless you can crunch the padding in the case enough to make room.

+1 for Schallers and thread locker red. I put them on all my basses and I get REALLY rowdy when I play live...never even thought about them letting go. The problem most folks have with Schallers is they do not install them properly. If you install them so the horseshoe is facing upward, it will never fail you...IF and I repeat IF you use threadlocker red. Red has to be heated to like 1200 degrees F before it will release, so the downside of it is that if you ever decide to change straps, you have to buy another straplock, but that is a small price to pay for the security. As far as the screw, I put the threadlocker red in the hole and use the screws that come with the locks. Again...NEVER a problem!

Guitar Center and Musician's Friend both carry the strap locks. If they don't have them in stock at your local GC you can always special order them! I get special orders from them all the time.

Personally I hate the Dunlops, love the Schallers and have never tried the Ernie Balls.

I just stick to the Schallers so all my basses are the same. I guess I'm too far down the road to switch now. I've had the same set of Schallers on a heavly gigged bass for almost 15years and they still work as good as the day I bought them.

I have bought 3 pairs of EB straplocks. For the most part they function quite well. Easy to mount to the bass (they don't appear to use the same screw as the standard button screw. This one is a little shorter, as the button is now hollow and the screw will sit a little deeper.) The retention of the straplock is pretty secure, only pressing both buttons on the dongle actually releases it. I seriously doubt there will be any accidental releases. They look good too, no big bulky hardware.

One downside though. They don't appear to work well with padded straps. In particular, for example, my Levi's 3.5" padded leather straps. There is a fair amount of thickness down at the ends of the strap. The EB straplocks feed through the button hole and you screw on a washer and retention nut. This works well with thin straps, like plain suede straps or nylon straps. But there is just not enough thread to go through thicker padded straps, and then add the washer and then the retention nut. I could just barely get the retention nut on by itself. But then, there is little or nothing holding the strapbutton to the strap at that point. If the threaded portion of the straplock was just a shade longer, I could have forced the washer and nut on there. As it is, I pretty much had to carve out the padded leather portion of the strap with an Xacto knife in order to reduce the thickness of the stap to get it to work. Not the best idea.

Dunlops have the same problem, only worse. If they made the threads longer, people would complain that they stuck out too far.

Actually there would be enough thread if instead of a nut AND a washer, just the washer was needed, with the washer itself being threaded.

You can gain further depth if the washer was threaded, and the inner hole was "dimpled" inwards (hard to describe, but kind of like a bullet punching a hole in metal if that makes any sense).

Just hoping EB takes a pretty darn good product and tinkers just a bit to make it a knockout.

Does that mean the buttons is secured with a nut like on the Schaller system?

Yes, but the nut goes on the bass side of the strap instead of the outside. The brilliance of the EBMM system is that if the nut loosens or even comes completely off while you are playing, your strap can't come off until you release the pin from the socket.

All you have to do is turn the nut a couple extra times and even the thickest padded straps work great with the EB Super Locks.

Not quite. If the strap is too thick, then it is impossible to even get the nut on at all. And the strap really doesn't need to be very thick to render the strap lock entirely uninstallable.

I've had no trouble installing EBMM straplocks on:

- Ernie Ball webbed straps
- Neotech bouncy-bouncy straps
- giant inflatable (just kidding) Comfort Straps

The Neotech and Comfort straps are fairly thick - maybe I have super powers!

I've got a Levi's strap that I couldn't get my Dunlops on because it was too thick. I put my EBs on it tonight just to see if it was possible and had no problems.

No problems, even with my thicker 'n' **** Moody Leather straps. Takes a small hex wrench to fully tighten down the nut though. Even work on 7ender basses...

For what it is worth....locks installed...dream, does what it says on the tin etc. Only thing I would add - candlewax the screws that are provided with the locks before applying :)

You can soap your screws, too.

I just like saying that. "Soap your screws."

So, you know - go soap your screws!
