So I got put on a 3 day week, normally i would have loved it but it is a very quite time for me gig wise,i only had 3 gigs last month.but hey thats not bad it is 3 more than some guys i have been talking to and we start to pick up again soon.

It gives me more time to pratice on the bass, which is great because i was working 5 days a week and doing 2 or 3 gigs a week too.

I am going to use the time to learn songs just for fun ...just for me....not because i have to play but because i want to play them.

so now i am looking for some cool tunes to play!! so far i have got stuck into "sir duke" great song.....dont know how i had not played it before and i also pulled out some Iron Maiden LP's just for fun !!

I am looking for some other songs to learn,if you can think of anything cool or just good fun please fire them at me !!!

It's a fun song with some nice bass. The solo in it was still too advanced for me last time I checked though:p At least on the tab I had... which claimed there were 2 basses or something:confused: Really makes me wish I had the ability to learn by ear:D

I recommend a three part process.

Stretch.
Warmup.
Groove the time away.

If you're into stevie, you might like this. Originally Herbie Hancock. It's a really fun bassline:

How about classic disco basslines....

Le freak by Chic

We are family by sister sledge

stomp by the brothers johnson.

Those are my personal favorites. All recorded using stingrays too! (stomp was actually possibly a sabre)

Yep, "Wrathchild" is off "Killers", other interesting Maiden songs to learn are the classic "Phantom of the Opera", "Killers", "Number of the Beast" (I never understood some of the seemingly odd meter sections in that one), "Run To The Hills", "The Trooper" (to sharpen your triplet skills), "Murders in the Rue Morgue", "Aces High" and the instrumentals "Ghenghis Khan" and "Losfer Words".

Naturally there are many more, but those are fun to play and even a bit of a challenge.

What about Rime of the Ancient Mariner or Paschendale? It's been a while since I listened to Maiden, so thanks for reminding me:p

"Paschendale" is too new for me.. and "Rime of the Ancient Mariner" is not much of a challenge, except for remembering the sequence of the parts... I had a bootleg where even Steve Harris himself fubared it and confused the hell out of his bandmates :)

I see, honestly the only bass part of Rime of the Ancient Mariner I can remember is the middle part where its almost only bass, at 5:09. A quick listen though I and I get what you mean, it does seem pretty simple. I guess my mind just remembered it as crazier since I liked it:p

I don't think Paschendale is that complicated either, and I was just remembering it as better 'cause I liked it. Oh well. I tried:D haha.
