Hi Guys and thanks for all the kind words.

Jamminjimm - when I removed the paint from the headstock I used wet and dry paper. I was kinda dependent on what the re sprayer had done as "prep" for the white. On the headstock I was lucky insofar as he used no grey primer.
On the body it seems that he has used a primer on top of the MD, - prolly to make the white "pop". I dunno about using thinners on the body as the thinners may attack all the coats of paint?
I did use some polishing compound on the headstock. I think yer right - white it'll have to be for now. I think I'll just set it up and play it for a while - just waiting on a new Piezo switch that has been ordered.

Good news is that I had two packages today
1) Ivan's CD - cheers Ivan, and
2) My new Digi SLR Olympus E520 camera - just waiting for the damn battery to charge up!!!

You might try a thinner. Just put some on a cloth and try rubbing some of the white off. It'll be easier on the MD finish underneath than sand paper. The finish on a Music Man is pretty dang tough. Hell, I tried using a chemical stripper(which is way more harsh than a thinner) on a stock Ibanez finish and it would hardly do anything to it.

I would have loved a Canon - they seem to be the choice of the pros.
Just outta my price range and I was desperate for a new camera.
Shoot they are a lot different to when it was about balancing aperture/opening and aperture speed!!

My thoughts on removing the white and primer over-coats. Indeed the original EBMM MD paint is tough as nails. And if the white refinish wanker didn't scuff up the original finish prior to overlaying, then the malignant primer/white should come off fairly easily. If the original finish was scuffed up, sanded, prior to the primer/white top layer, then the primer/white would be pretty difficult to take off.

I can get it professionally done over here as my good mate is a guitar builder - it would mean "cracking the MD code" ha! I may just get it done black as that is one of my fav finishes.

I know when JP prototyped the JP, the flip flop paint used (black) was a Dupont car paint colour.
I wonder whether MD is also a car colour?

This appears to be the "Black Fire" guitar we made for John. It is one of the last prototypes we made before the first hand signed run. The color is Dupont Chromalusion Black Fire, which is something his tech thought would be cool. Recently I've seen a few cars over here that have an awesome flip finish.

Sort of an Orange Firemist base colour, with the MD Purple for the colour change.

The effect is awesome due to the increased contrast in colour.

one of the most awesome car paint jobs ive ever seen was a '98 toyota supra in a gold/purple chromallusion paint. yes, it flipped from gold to purple and back. it was absolutely insane. i'd love to have a guitar that color.
