I know this subject is beaten to death.... sorry about that.

do i understand this right?

Stingrays and Sterlings: approximately same pickup positions (H, HH, HS)

bongos: single H, pickup closer to neck than the stingray
HS/HH: bridge pickup closer to the bridge than the stingray

Almost...

All H models are the same.

All HS/HH models are the same as the H models with the exception of the Bongo. The 24 frets on the Bongo made it necessary to move the pickups toward the bridge on the HS/HH models.
