It's a classic matchup, maple neck, ash body, humbucker.

But rather that route an AL for a bucker, a good option would be to find an old Axis Sport HSS.

Why not? It still an AL technically!

Okay, leave one hb at the bridge, replaced the rest with 2 singles. :D

I would go for an Axis Sport but I think I prefer the wider neck of the AL.

Plus the Al just has that Jetsons look that is so cool.

cheers guys!

I don't even like blue guitars, but that Al is awesome....I'd be all over that if it was available.

i think the hb in the bridge is sweet....but would definately want the singles in neck and middle.

that being said, i've never played an Al...and for that i feel slighted

Dude you must locate one and give it a whirl!!! If your lucky enough to locate one with MM90's, it's just the best config of the AL.

How about a stacked single? Or noiseless? Saves you routing.

I've got Bill Lawrence L200s in mine, noisefree but vintage sounding. I can crank up the gain and they're dead quieter than any of the HBs I've got in other guitars. Killer.

It might even be worth a shot to take a MM-90 version and put a couple of higher output Dimarzio P-90's in there, ala Tone Zone or DLX versions. I know a couple of folks have done that on MM-90 Axis Sports (fsmith and fing if I'm not mistaken).

I personally can't wait to see/hear what the AL has to offer. My AL is on its way, and the wait is killing me .. . . . .

I dug through the forums and found some pics of Blues's AL

Also found pics of Dweezil's AL

BTW. The search function on the site is a hell of a thing. The humbuckers in an AL question seems to come up every 2-3 years.

While these are cool ideas. I agree with BP. Sometimes a guitar has to be what it is. If a humbucker and Floyd loaded guitar is what you're looking for, EBMM makes that. It's called the Axis. If you need HB's and a recessed Floyd, EBMM used to make that too. You can find used Silo's with recessed Floyds on eBay from time to time.

It's not to say that modification after you buy one is taboo. Quite the opposite. Go nuts. But from a production standpoint, I'm happy to have these guitars (especially the AL) be as they were from the factory. Some things shouldn't be fooled with.

But that is just my honest personal opinon.

AL's are just great, cant fault them at all, SSS or MM90, trem or hardtail, they just plain rule. Easily the best feeling neck of the bunch, it oozes class. I'll never forget the first AL I got, I felt like I was playing a truly great guitar, as it should be made.
