Picked up a 100th Anni NAMM SR today....

I have been GAS-ing for one of these for years and never thought I would find one of these (100 made) in my price range.

Anyways, a local guy had one for sale that he wasn't playing, the price was acceptable for both parties (much less than I expected) and the deal was done. Great guy too and a MUCH better player than I.

Perfectly mint shape and like new. I think it will be a perfect addition to my 30th SR4 and 20th SR5. I am now down to 3 SRs as I sold a couple lately partially to fund this.

I will post some pics tomorrow (they all look the same though - silver body, Status neck, etc...) but my initial thoughts are......

Good....
- amazing tone and the articulation on the high end is amazing.
- great feel. I love the neck. The action can be so low it is scary.
- this bass weighs next to nothing!

Bad.... I HATE the razor sharp pole pieces! Not a big deal but I tend to play on these.

In any case.... I actually believe it sounds better than my 30th. I haven't gigged the 100th yet (have done many with my 30th), but so far it is the best SR I have played (including the 78 and 79 SRs I owned many years ago).

Highly recommended in any case.

Oh, I forgot.... DAMN THIS IS A COOL LOOKING BASS!!!

I played this for a bit this morning and collectable or not, this bass will definately get some gigging time. I am really digging the sound/feel/look.

I'm curious, though, on your above comment. If the pre-amp and pickups are the same, can the neck really make that much difference in the overall tone? Especially a graphite v. wood neck?

I, too, own a 30th and refuse () to believe there's anything out there that sounds better. Although, I do keep thinking about maddog's blank plank Bongo (damn you maddog )

My initial impression is that it definately sounds and feels different (in the hour or so I have had to play it). Brighter? Clearer? More articulate? Not sure exactly, but different anyways at first impression... and likely better to my ears. Keep in mind that I have yet to gig or rehearse with this bass. Different neck obviously, NOT a mahogany body like the 30th but they are both string thru body.

I really like the feel of the neck in any case.

I will report back after I gig with this next week.

Outstanding news! That is my favorite bass! Yes, the pickup poles are sharp, but you will get used to them.

The bass is amazing, and I think you found a new gigging bass! This bass should be seen, as well as heard!

T-bone, if the pre-amp and pickups are the same, can the Mahogany body on a 30th really make that much difference in the overall tone?

Sure, it would seem to make sense that body woods might factor in more substantially in overall tone than neck woods/materials - especially from one wood type to another. Then again, I was sure I could hear a difference with the Mahog neck on the BFR Redwood SR (though granted, the wonderful wood selection "cocktail" on that one makes it tricky). But a change in neck material from wood to graphite/carbon fiber ... IMHO, that's a really big change. I had one of these NAMM 100th Anni's once. It was VERY different tonally. For slap, I actually couldn't find a "transparent" enough sound on it for my personal taste, due to the very prominent mids. I like my slap sound like my avatar suggests.
