Cant believe that the browser timed out on me when i first tried to post this.. LOL...

--20 seems a bit less.. But a good number :) here's mine--

1. Youthanasia - Megadeth.. First album which showed me how an angry guitar should sound like ..\m/.. The seeds of riff playing is planted on my brain..

2. Countdown to Extinction - Megadeth .. had to get this after Youthanasia.. Couldnt believe i missed this album when I first heard it.. Tight stuff.. and IMHO.. A-Grade production..

3. Images and Words - Dream Theater.. First prog album and i just coulnt get enough of it.. Added a lot more to my 'wannabe' playing dimension..

4. Not of this Earth - joe Satriani.. The first real album which showed me what an electric guitar can sound like.. and the melody associated with it.. the nuances.. This album really pushed me to know more about guitar playing.. I ended up buying the songbook for this album and did manage to finish half the album.. lol..

5. Cowboys from Hell -Pantera. This was like a bolt of lighting.. It just hit and everytime at that..

6. Vulgur Display of Power - Pantera. Had to after CFH..

7. Dark Side of the moon - Pink Floyd. The introduction of Pink Floyd into my life.. There was just no turning back :D

8.Surfing with the Alien - Joe Satriani. The definitive guitar virtuoso album.. I was mesmerised with each song..

9.The Extremist - Joe Satriani. Just an awesomely produced album.

10. Awake - Dream Theater. First time I heard a 7 string in a real song :) no offense..

11. Rust in Peace - Megadeth. Brilliant album..

12. III Sides to every Story - Extreme. First time i heard a concept album or sort of.. I was blown away by these guys..

13. Falling Into Infinity - Dream Theater. Something about this album.. always makes me wanna hear more of it..

14.G3 - Joe,Vai & Eric . Steve Vai opened up my mind to the limitless possibilities of double-handed tapping.. Just awesomeness... The violin like sound of Eric and the sheer capacity of Joe.. A very much rounded virtuoso album in a live setting.. what more can you ask ??!

15.10,000 Days - Tool. WOW.. This album opened my mind to this different prog genre out there and I loved it..

16.Trouble Is - Kenny Wayne Shepherd. The moment I heard 'blue on black' I knew this guy had something.. was not disappointed when I finally got the album.

17.Fear of the Dark - Iron Maiden . phewww.. Almost missed this one.. Bruce's siren vocals plus the twin guitar attack and steve harris ??!! Just the perfect combination..and i did have a 'Fear of the Dark' when I was a kid and this song didnt help..lol..

18.Paranoid - Black Sabbath.. Pioneers !!

19.Japandemonium & Lean Into It - Mr.Big.. GTSM is just an awesomely constructed song.. Not to mention.. all the those heart-broken songs to tide me when the times were tough ;)

20.Scenes from a Memory - Dream Theater.. I intentionally kept this for the last because this album to me shows how a band should sound like.. Right from the -- tic tok tic tok.. i was blown away..

Edit --Really sorry about the winding posts.. I guess i got carried away..

i see "And justice for all" and "Appetite for Destruction" a lot in these top 20s very cool :)

Honestly Dean, AFD is a major album for me. Although I don't listen to it much these days, I've observed that listening to my own playing recorded these days reminds me of Slash's solo playing on that album. It's got that same frenzy, sloppy, messy feel... Hahahaha... I'm not much of a fan of him actually, but I have to say he's been a huge influence in crafting the way I'd like my own solos to sound...

(also because I couldn't cop JP's playing...)

Actually you know what? I should have put the Use Your Illusion cd's in there in place of Appetite, I much preferred them at the time when I just started, I didnt actually learn much from Appetite and liked the diverse tunes on the Illusions. Locomotive ROCKS!

I am pretty certain that all the Dixie Dregs/Dregs/Steve Morse Band/Steve Morse/Kansas/Deep Purple output that Steve played on totals to more than 20 albums, but that would be my list. :)

Actually, you're right... I learnt more learning the Knocking On Heaven's Door, Don't Cry, November Rain, Estranged and You Could Be Mine riffs and solos than I did with My Michelle.

But AFD opened my eyes to another way of playing guitar other than the usual CC Deville (who I also like) style. Though Tom Keifer blew my mind with Long Cold Winter and Bad Seamstress Blues.:D

if we are talking about guitars and guitarists, my list would be a little different. i was going in the direction of musical tastes and the general feeling that i got from the albums/artists.

sweet thread though Dean!
