A totally different approach, but why not shim the neck a little?
You could, but that would be less desirable. With shims, there's the chance that you're going to affect neck/body coupling. Not always a big deal, esp with smaller shims, but I would want to avoid them if possible.

Hey, Stein, if you contact CMC Music in Australia http://www.cmcmusic.com.au/ and ask them, they should be able to provide you with an assortment set of screws (Music Man part # M05134) like beej and craiguitar described. If they don't have it, drop an email to me at [email protected] and we can facilitate that for you.

and welcome - great guitar!

Just a quick update which may help a few people.
I like the action quite low on my Luke II, and I found even the 8mm grub screw would protrude too much from the low E saddle, causing comfort issues.

So I recently bought a bag of M3 x 6mm grub screws to try, and was amazed to find they actually work! I thought they'd be too small, as they dissapear way below the top of the saddle, I thought the screw would just fall straight out from beneath the saddle. But they hold just nice, Fantastic.
They are really cheap to buy, but I have some spare if anyone local to me (UK) needs any, i'd gladly post them to you free of charge (in the true spirit of knuckleheads of course!).

Tried Highwood Contoured Saddles?

This thread offers so many good answers, and yes MM CS is awesome!!! I'm sure that is why no comments in such a long time...

BUT,

Has anyone tried the Highwood Contoured Vintage Saddles available from StewMac?
- Highwood has redesigned the vintage saddle so the adjustment screws are out of harm's way while retaining the look of the originals.
- On Highwood saddles, the height screws feed in from the bottom so they never extend over the top of the saddle—all you'll feel is the smooth polished bridge under your palm.

Would love to hear your comments and thoughts, especially if you have installed them on a guitar, or played one with them.
