erm... I'm lost...

250k mono? Mono 250k? VP Jr 250k? 500k? Huh? how come a volume pedal has so many options? Can anyone shed light on this?

Lionel, AFAIK it all depends on the instrument You are using it with and on the place in the signal chain. So, for example, if You're putting it behind a 19' inch effect processor You'd need a 25k (hopefully I'm correct), since "normal" instrument volume pedals would have just almost no sweep at all and work more like a switch. (That's the problem I have with my cheapo volume pedal and the eventide mod-Factor).

Than You can/should use different pedals for a guitar/bass/keyboard depending on its electronics and settings.

It's not true bypass : there is no switch.
When the pedal is completely down (that is full volume) your sound still goes in the audio taper. You lose a bit of volume and a bit of high frequencies.

Hmm... I see... so as a buffer, it might be a good thing to have... Assuming all my other pedals are TB.

True bypass is a myth ...
Specialists like Pete Cornish or Roger Mayer prefer to have good buffered pedals than true bypass. If you have several pedals, you will have a great length of cables (6 meters from your guitar to the pedals and 6 meters from your last pedal to the amp + all the patch cables and internal circuitry of the pedals) thus you lose the integrity of your signal. It's better to have first a good buffered pedal (after that you can have true bypass pedals, it does not matter).
There was a very good article in Guitar & Bass magazine (an UK mag). If I find it I will try to scan it (but I have some many mags ...)

It all depends on what you're going for. Pros and cons both ways. Me, I have a buffer on my board and I like the sound of it.

Short answer- if you use a buffer put the VP after it and use the 25k version (or in the FX loop). Else with passive pickups use the 250k version. The VP Jr is a nice size :)
