Please help my guitar player

His name is Tony L, and I am coaching him towards EBMM guitars, I like him, he can play quite well and he is a fun guy, sadly he plays pointed headstock guitars which shall go nameless.

I showed him the sound and playability difference between a non EBMM bass and my Bongo, and his jaw hasn't yet lifted from the surprise.

Finally he is starting to show a keen interest in Silhouettes but he would want one in a HSH pickup configuration 5 pos switch etc, because that is what he is used to play with on his I-Vai-nez lookalike guitar, is there such a Silo with those specs and a floating tremolo thing?

Hi,

Standard silhouettes mostly come in HSH (very rarely in SSS). They have a 5way switch and 24 frets so I imagine it would be a seamless transition. Speaking as someone who came to EBMM silhouettes from Paul Gilbert models I know he will take to them well.

Floyds are a different matter; best to wait for a more experience board member to comment, but of the few I have seen, they are mostly early 90's models with the nut lock actually on the headstock and not the nut itself. He will find as I did that the vintage trems are capable of complete stability even under sustained abuse. Quite a feat if you ask me. The only guitars I trust to stay in tune with a non-locking trem are EBMM.

New silhouettes all come with HSH. Tre tremolo on the new ones is not floating (You can set it up to give You some "flutter", though). You can also find used silhouettes equipped with floyds (I Think they were produced between 1992 and 1996-1997).

However, if he is playing an Ibanez RG or a Jem - why don't You insist that he tries out a Petrucci Model in the first place (Yeah, no HSH - but he still has a split coil sound for cleans)? It has a wide and thin neck profile (like Ibanez wizard or jem necks), a basswood body, and a floating trem. If John made this transition from a slightly modded Ibanez RG to EBMM, than Your guitar player can surely do this as well!!!

Very funny about the bit in Venice, I once took place in a speedboat race there and I tell you it's a nightmare on a 12 metre craft with a 600bhp hydrojet on the back of your ass!!

Our ships sail way past the southern Giudecca canal mainly becase of low draught

Tony L wants a Silo, he said he can't afford a JP hopefully he will try one this week and see if he can make do without the floating trem.

As for your Guitarist try to find him an older silo with Floyd I'm sure he will love it

Yes!!! that is the one I was thinking... but then again the pickup configuration on the Morse looks a tad more complicate than a simple HSH, right? I believe I saw a neck bucker and a single coil stuck right next to it, wha'ts that all about?

It looks like this. It has a 5-way switch and does come with a Floyd. It's much simpler than the original Morse guitar. This one is called Morse Y2D or something like that. It's a nice guitar.

a morse could possibly work as the guys said... it is available w/ a flloyd. the only other flloyd equipt MM is the axis.

The JP may be worth considering cuz it kicks ass and has an awesome floating trem but only comes as an HH

OT - Hard to justify that when he's got an R1. There isn't a single Honda I'd take over a 1,000cc R1.

Suzuki, now that's another story!

The HSH set up is something that I've never had personal experience with to be honest. I always played on 2x HB pups and SSS.

So this thread is a learning experience for me as well.
