Fuzzracer, I understood your inititial post and that it was a bit strangly worded.....
The fact that it's used throws all possibilities at it. Anything from pickup changes through bad rewiring to mis-wiring to who knows what could be the issue. I do know that the first Axis I played was used and was absolutely horribly set up.....so much so, it was about unplayable. Fortunately, I had played a new one, so didn't worry too much about the bad setup.
I look at used guitars of all types constantly.....and I have seen some beautiful, custom built guitars that have obviously changed hands a number of times with custom switching defeated, great pickups replaced with crap. It happens all the time in the used world.
Good luck with tracking down the issue......I guess it demonstrates my requirement to play a guitar before buying.

i have both guitars too, although my ASS has maple. There is clearly a difference in the two models, but you have to expect that, otherwise you would just buy another AXIS if you wanted the same. I expected that when i picked up my ASS after first aquiring the AXIS. However, i made some minor subtle changes that have brought the sound of the ass closer to the sound of the AXIS.
the first was to install a pushpull knob for the tone, allows the disengaging of the tone and the second was to raise the bridge pup height by approx 1mm (don't know what the inch equivalent is). These two changes brought my ASS from being a great guitar to freakin great guitar. Having said that, each to their own. Otherwise if its a technical issue and your not sure, seek some professional advice.

Actually, I'm wondering if that's my old guitar? Post a pic and I can certainly tell for sure. Probably a slim chance but you never know. I sold it on ebay and it was setup at the factory not long before I sold it. It played beautifully when it left here. IF that's the one.
Anyway, there is a difference between an ASS and Axis even though the pickups are the same. Tim and I suspect it has to do with the extra wires and all of that jazz.
Jack, you bought the Spaceball 3000 from me without playing it first. I hope you were happy with that how that turned out.

Maybe he's picking a fight because anytime someone comes on this board and says something even in the slightest bit negative about Music Man instruments, you get a bunch of goofballs jumping their **** like they don't have the right to make such a statement. Tone was not out of line. Tommy was.
It's funny that you used the term 'pile on' here. I see it quite a bit, but not in the way that you describe it.

Hope you don't mind if I stick my face in on the pics, it's the best of the guitar I have. Also yeah I bought it off ebay Radrock and like I said everything on it is superb including the setup. Gigged it lastnight and there is a definate issue with the attack being fizzy and undefined and on the low notes (not attributable to my amp as I've tried it with many other guitars). The latter stages of the note are ok though, best I can liken it to is a mic that's peaking. It's very subtle and sometimes I think I'm just being picky but lastnight definately highlighted it for me.
Everything looks stock, but I'm just about to open up the rear cavity to have a peep at the stuff in there. Could the mildew problem have affected the electronics in this way? (see my other old post on page 1)

I also think that as already agreed by the involved parites that in frustration the original post could have been more diplomatic.
The rest is just getting funny. Tone your response doesnt fly here.....
I also love the people who can post smileys backing up someone who loves to point out that this is a biased group of diehards......Kung fu what do you expect? Maybe instead of the knee jerk ridiculing the obvious ....maybe all threads that are attacking or lacking respect get jumped on?
I can handle it if we make a mistake and truly regret it. The whole team busts its ass to fix mistakes when we make them. We also fix things all day long that arent our fault as the customer being happy with our products is important.
Now the rub....it is a used instrument.....the player is a loyal ebmm user and isnt happy.....Tommy and Beej are the least likely to get in a fight and happen to be the ones that I have no problem dispensing advice as they are very capable...especially Tommy. All the good advice is like a giant fart.....We need to see the guitar and find out if it has been modified or out of spec somehow...If after that the guitar doesnt suit him then Im sure it will make someone else happy.

Keep in mind, it is a 98 or 99 if I remember correctly. Mine did have a little rust or wear in places, but the factory set it up and never said anything about bad wiring. Email me the SN and we'll see.
Just to clarify what BP is saying, this is more of a customer service issue than a forum thing, but I stand by my good Ebay feedback. IF this was my guitar AND you bought it directly from me, then we'll go from there.

Anyway. Yep that was my guitar and it was sold to the UK. You told me you bought it from someone there and that's correct. I guess he wasn't feeling it, although he might have made a profit off of it. He got it from me at a steal.
