Hi all

I purchased my first EB Axis super sport last week. 2nd hand model circa 2002 with dual Hummers with a 5 way switch to go SC mode etc.

All Birds eye maple neck and fingerboard. I have a couple of questions if I may.

I wondered about cleaning (as it is very grimey) and have found this out from the EB video and search of forums.

However the following Q's I cannot find answers to: 1. I am in the UK and want to replace the 5 way selector as it is not very healthy, where might I source this from.

Secondly I want to set this up with as low an action as poss and so far with a bit of trial and error have gotten it pretty good. The bridge is not Floyd R or any other but the standard trem version.. I am not a complete novice on guitars but given the uniqueness of these units wondered if there were any pearly bits of knowledge to pass on?

I am loving the guitar and can say that I think it already plays better than my 89 Les paul custom. Thanks in advance

Have you tried adjusting the truss rod wheel at all? That is the first thing I have done with mine and it has taken care of the action. I like low action as well.

Try contacting Strings and Things or another EBMM Rep or just buy it online.

you're welcome.
the truss rod adjusts neck relief. DON'T TURN IT QUICKLY. Make small 1/4 turn adjustments.

You should contact customer service for more info. and let's see some pics!

I'd recommend taking for a pro setup to a qualified guitar tech.
He can do the 5 way switch too..

Important

Important!

The switch that was suggested to you to buy online will not work for you in your AxisSS. What you need is a 5-way switch that has two wafers on it, it's more like the super-strat switch and has 24 terminals. I think you'll have to get ahold of EBMM Customer Service, or have one of the Ernie Ball retailers in the UK order one for you. The one I got from EBMM says M05428 on it and I think that's the part number. Also, although the wiring of the switch isn't too bad, it's a little more complex than a simple 5 way. If you haven't soldered much it might be best to have a guitar tech or skilled electronics tech complete the replacement.
And I have the schematic for the ASS. Send your email addy to me in a PM and I'll shoot it over to you.

bridge

I have watched the video now -thans for the link.

So it appears that the truss rod will do all the required action lowering. The bridge came flat to the body and I have raised it 2 or 3mm to then lower the saddles onto the neck. Are the EB's best set up with the bridge flat to the body and the truss rod for fine tuning or would you guys recommend a combination?

The proper string gauge with tuning set up always helps with the action settings as well. It's easy to catch these mistakes when you have kids running into the store with 9-42's playing Drop C wondering why they have insane fret buzz.

But I'm pretty sure you don't have that problem.
