Hi folks,

I have a luscious Axis SuperSport MM90 in translucent orange... I love this guitar... but........

.......it appears that the P-90 style pickups in this guitar are not adjustable (as in up and down, as in closer or farther away from the strings...)

I thought I would post here because maybe I am doing something wrong and just don't know it... the two phillips heads screws in the middle of the pickups... I thought these were suppose to adjust the pickup height? They don't do anything on my guitar...

Any suggestions?

Of course any good guitar thread is in need of at least one proud picture... so here she is:

If you look close, there is a butterfly sitting on the bridge pickup... it is just sort of a "Rorschach" image of the two pieces of the top coming together, but to me it looks like a butterfly sitting there...

:)

The pickups are flush-mounted to the guitar. raising them would require a shim underneath.

Thanks TonyEVH5150.... I guess that sort of answers my question... actually, it isn't toward the strings I want to go, I was hoping to lower the pickups just a smidgen....

Then just now I picked up the guitar and turned on the amp... and for the life of me... the tone is so damned good, I can't imagine changing a thing....

looks like I won't have to worry about it, because evudently they aren't adjustable (except by shim and I don't want to go, I would go down...)... so looks Like I'm just stuck with an awesome sounding guitar that isn't adjustable,,, no problems there... this is an A+++ # 1++++ guitar in my harem... I bought it at a Sam Ash store on the north side of Nashville a few years ago... as soon as I touched it... it was like it had mgic dust on it or some snit... lol... the tone just captivated me.... no need to change a thing really...

I think I'll quickly return to my usual non-tickering "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" mentality....

Thanks for the welcome...

... I have actually owned this guitar since January 2005... I guess I should have stopped by to offer my homage to an excellent guitar building company long before this...

Ernie Ball is doing the MusicMans right... every MusicMan I have ever touched was spot-on beautiful and had the best action... some of the other guitar builders out there on the planet do not impress me the same way, even though they might have a famous name and a long corporate life in days... that doesn't make it absolute that the other guys make quality instruments everytime...

At least in my experience... playing now for 33 years... MusicMans since concenption in the Leo years have always been very cool instruments... what I can appreciate (as I do with the G&L guitar makers...) is that the company didn't sell out for lowest price and quickest production just to turn a buck... Ernie Ball has really continued to make top notch instruments, even after the conception from leo fender years ago... as is the case with John and Dave McClaren (of BBE) who took over at G&L after Leo passed away in 1991... if you have ever read some of Dave's posting in the G&LDP (G&L Discussion Page(... you'll know Dave McClaren is very passionate about making fine instruments...

I haven't hung out here, but I already know... these MusicMan guitars are top-nothc, kick-ass tone machines...

Thanks to all the Balls who had (um...) the "balls" to keep the line alive and potent, full of tone, and top quality....

More MMs will enter my flock as time flies....

I am incredibly curious about the Albert Lee model... dang that looks cool... The Albert Lee on the MM web site in Egyptian Smoke just kills me every time I drool over it (oops, where's my towel.. haha)...

man, I want one just like that... LOL...

and maybe Santa can bring me a Steve Morse...

and I might be willing to drop a molar if the tooth fairy could bless me with an Axis SuperSport with humbuckers:

I got to touch a rosewood one once... OMG... had to apologize to the guy for dripping drool all over it... hahaha... the tone was spectacular...

... oh man.....

gotta stop.....

... I think my heart rate just went through the roof... LOL....

I think to lower those pups you'd be looking at some mods to screws/pup casings and/or pup cavity. not worth it.....

I too see the butterfly.....cool. Welcome....dead on with the picture inclusion!

Kewl, are you still in Nashville (been to that Sam Ash a few times)?

I can tell you that the pickup positions for both mm-90's are pretty much in the sweet spot for that guitar. They did alot in the development stages to make sure they were in the right place.

And you HAVE to try an AL. I have one with the same pickups as the Super Sport (plus a middle pickup - tonal nirvana with three MM-90's and a 5-way switch) and it is THE best guitar ever made!!!

Beautiful top! But it looks like an eagle to me, and its swooping down to land on the shoulder of a big breasted lady in a viking helmut. (You know these things are like ink clouds) :D

Nice top.

I started with one Albert (sss) then had to get another (MM90 + r/w neck).
Then an EVH then just fell in love with the JP.

Little did I know that I would have bought 4 balls in the last 4 years when I only bought 3 guitars in the previous 34 years!!

Get an AL - I'm sure that you won't be disappointed - most people who have bought one on the forum end up keeping them and even become captivated by them.
I remember Roblinda2 was a silo(?) man then got bite by the AL Bug - look at him now
Fingbeagles seems to have gravitated to an AL in his tone quest.
