Body differences between SR5 & Sterling

OK, another newbie question, and yes, I've searched here and couldn't find the answer.

Do any of the SR5's have the same body as the SR4's, or do they all look like a Sterling? I've been thinking about getting an SR5, but I want the body to be like an SR4 and not a Sterling.

Can someone fill me in?

None of the above...

The SR5, SR4, and Sterling all have completely different bodies and always have.

The Sterling4 and Sterling5 have the same bodies.

It's not possible...

The closest you will get is a 20th anniversary SR5.

The SR5's styling is based on the silhouette guitar. It is what it is.

I think the discontinued SUB5 is the closest you can get to a Stingray 4.

It's not so mind boggling if you know a bit of the company's history, and if you stick around & learn a bit about Big Poppa. Anyway ... though they're discontinued, you can find a SUB5 relatively easily on ebay, etc.

The SR5 body shape is incredibly cool. You don't need the SR4 shape to make you 'cool' (although the SR4 is very cool!)

Maybe you're right, although I've read quite a bit about Sterling and his father already before coming here.

Let me explain myself a little further. I had posted the other day about getting an SR4 just like Ben Orr's (The Cars). While I found a few for sale, I thought that I might want to get a 5 string (I currently play a Spector Euro 5 string) but have it still look like Ben's SR4 (Sterling Silver w/black PG). I prefer a heavier body and not a skinnier neck. Apparently that can't be done (w/the exception of getting close w/the LTD and SUB5 and w/o the silver color).

get the 20th sr5.. it is an awesome axe!!!

basically its a sr4 body with a 5th string on it.. indeed it got a nice top (quilt or flame) and also the toneblock which makes it one mean bastard!

I wondered this too when I first wandered into the EBMM world. I always loved the look of the 4-string guard and separate control plate cover. I am still on the hunt for a 5-string SUB just because of this. Love that look but need 5 strings.

Great minds think alike! I've been reading reviews on the SUB5. The consensus seems to be that the tone of the SUB5 is near the SR, but not quite as good. is that what you've heard?

I picked up a passive SUB 5 a while back but eventually sold it. I found it sounded best when I used an Aguilar DB 924 preamp between the bass and the amp.

I'd buy another SUB or SUB 5 if it was active, but I suspect my next fiver will be a Bongo or an SR5.
